Here's the screws I used. No problem drilling thru the piece of channel I had laying around. The box clearly labels them as self-drilling. They have wings that enlarge the hole thru the board and then shear off when drilling the metal. Keeps from battling the board trying to ride up the screw.

Wow, those would be the ticket!! I just have self threading screws, and some extra drill bits... I'll probably stick with what I have, since I doubt the fastener store will take them back, but for others, where did you get those screws? They're even coated, it appears...

Got em at my local Lumber Yard. Yep, they are coated. Midwest Fasteners is the brand. They work great.

These

2-1/5" X 5/16" Torx Head Floor and Wall Liner Screw | Nuera Trailer Parts

Are what I used. Use a standard drillbit. And these screws tap themself in. but dont drill on their own.

Doing a new trailer, I'd be inclined to use self drillers. But my trailer had deckboards done a time or two in the past as well. So the top of the cross members was already starting to look like swiss cheese. And didnt want to be binding and breaking screws trying to drill. So I opted for using a drillbit + self tapper

Next time you need to purchase some, try the self drilling. Yours look just like mine except mine have the drill bit on the end and "wings". Easily cuts the assembly time in half.

Yea, I am no stranger to self drillers. Use them all the time for various other stuff. My issue was the "swiss" cheese I had to screw into. Figured I'd be better served with a drill bit.

Totally understand that.

Asked the fastener place. No go on self drillers. I have what I have, and they'll have to do. :)
