I don't hunt anymore except coyote. Twice this week I had a horny 6 pointer running all around my yard. Does scattering everywhere. This old boy would try to tat then spit it out and shake his head and off he would go after another of the 6 -10 that live on my property. The old boys got the horns and nobody's having it😜

My oldest daughter and I hunted Friday through yesterday. I shot 3 doe for the freezer. We saw some nice bucks, but nothing I wanted to shoot, unless it's a cull or a trophy monster, I don't feel any need to get a buck for myself. We'll go out again in another week and take some blackbuck ewes for the freezer and see if we find any whitetail bucks worth shooting.

My daughter will be 13yo next season and says she's ready to step up to a deer rifle and take one for herself next year. I guess we can start shopping for her deer rifle. I'm a proud dad, she's a great outdoor partner.

Our buck season came in Monday, but yesterday was my first chance out in the woods. Saw no horns, and only a few tails bounce off thru thick brush. But I did find this tree rubbed clean of it's bark. Biggest I've ever seen, most times its sapplings 3/4 to 1" diameter, not this big. Love to see the monster that tore this tree up in my crosshairs!

Just noticed this thread. Took this nice Axis in Concho County Texas opening weekend (Nov. 6th). His main beams are just over 27" which is not as good as the one I took 4 years ago that was 34" and made the SCI record book at number 26.

Rifle season opens here in Louisiana this weekend. (Nov. 19).

Very nice. Easily one of the very best eating animals out there. My wife shot three axis does last year and we will probably go out again in January to try for some more.

I suggest you consider a .25-06 for her. I started both my daughters on a Browning A-Bolt II composite stalker. I like this gun so much that I now have 3 of them. One for each of my daughters and one for my 3 year old grandson. I'm borrowing his until he is old enough to handle it. And, I've taken many deer with these guns, including the axis I posted earlier in this thread.

Karen shot her first whitetail deer today. Third year out there trying and it finally happened. It's a nice young buck with a total of three points. Tomorrow morning I'll drop him off at the meat processor. She said she wants a roast for Christmas!!

I'm a quarterbore fan and shoot a Ruger Hawkeye 25-06 stainless laminate myself. I also have a .257 Weatherby accumark.

For her, I'd prefer a short action, so I'm considering a .260Rem. You essentially get the same ballistic performance, but in a short action. Or maybe a 7mm-08, but a .260 is so much sexier :dance1:
