L2501 Quotes

Disclaimer: I really like my L3901.

I have put over 800 hours on it in just over a year; mostly loader work with some mowing thrown in. HST is the way to go doing loader work. Buy as big as you can possibly afford to avoid buying over like I have done twice. I have 1100 hours on my '07 B7510 and put 1200 hours on a B3200. I prefer the L model to the B models (heavier, better 3 point control). I found an inexpensive 3 point backhoe on craigs list. It digs trenches fine. I have dug up just a couple of stumps, however if I had a bunch to do I think I would rent something to grind them out. The 3901 does have the Tier 4 engine, however as long as I run it around 2K RPM the regen light stays off. It is when I dink around at 15 to 16 hundred RPM that the regen comes on. The loader hydraulics are still smooth at 2K RPM as opposed to being jerky. I backed off the L4701 because it does not have a clutch on the left side - that is where the brakes are. I have had an occasion to use the clutch and am thankful I stuck to the old school idea of a clutch on the left side. If you are going to handle brush and want to save some $ on hydraulics look at Westendorf's "Brush Crusher" setup. Mine are pin on but quick attach is available. I did have the dealer install the "cruise control" on the L39 which comes in handy when mowing or moving dirt over distance. Handy for tilling at a very slow pace.

I think that makes a difference just because you are not running at a constant rpm all the time.

That may make some sense. Most of the time mine is under 2000 rpm. It has plenty of torque to do what I need. When over 2000 rpm it is for brief periods of time. I haven't mowed much with it but do run the box blade some. When running the box blade I will typically run it in a lower gear and over 2000 rpm. It is louder but still nothing that bothers me. Possibly throw in the HST noise, which I don't have, I can see where it may add up. I have no doubt you had a noise issue with your tractor. I don't. I am curious if it was your tractor in paticular. I guess noise can be a subjective thing. I don't like the whining sound HST tractors make. It's not bad till I notice it and once that happens I can't help but notice it. I went old school on this tractor, no emissions junk or HST. It reminds me of the tractors I used of my granddads. I am in no hurry and the L2501DT works great. I also prefer stick shift cars so the DT is very intuitive to me. I got the tractor to help with a bunch of work I am doing. It is also used to relax and get my mind of the daily grind. I can't think of a better way to enjoy my day than being on a diesel manual shift tractor.

Sounds great! The manual 2501 would be at top of my list if I didn't need HST for loader work. My L3830 is geared and I love it.

I agree on the HST whine. I hope I get used to it.

Just thought I'd chime in as a recent L2501 owner. I bought mine at the end of June for work around the house. (8 acres, woods, long gravel drive). Only have about 25 hours so far but have been extremely pleased. Have used mostly for loader work - dirt, gravel, large rocks, a couple of stumps with a stump bucket, moving pallets and logs with forks. Very happy with the capabilities of the machine. Have done some mowing and landscape raking as well, and operating in mud (R4's). Used snowblower for the first time this week and that worked great too.

This is my first tractor so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it has been 100% reliable so far, easy to learn and use, seems simple mechanically if I were to need to work on it. No concern at all with power (HST), though my whole property is flat. And never even thought about noise/volume until reading this thread. I don't wear earplugs and havent felt the need for them. But probably not a bad idea for extended use.

Overall extremely happy with the machine so far. Very capable, easy to use, plenty of traction, and fun!

ETA: regarding price,I paid about $25k with land pride 72" rake, 60" finish mower, 64" snowblower. Has HST, loaded R4's, 66" SSQA bucket, tooth bar. Bought forks, stump bucket, work lights separately.

Pedzola,

Thank you for the info. We should be closing on the land the week of Christmas, after which I'll end up buying the tractor. It sounds like the L2501 will fit our needs pretty well, based on how its working out for you.

And having a recent price gives me a sort of target when it comes to negotiations. Thank you for that.

I purchased my L2501 gear with R1, canopy, loaded tires, block heater, telescoping draft links, brush guard with 4 weights, work light and included 40-HR dealer service for a little over $14k in July. I already have a TLB, so this is strictly a field tractor. I can tell you that it's a very capable little tractor and has yet to fail me. It easily pulls a 6' disc, 2 bottom plow, 5' rotary mower, 7' blade and 6' rake. It replaced an older L25

Sounds good! You need to change your name to Orange rules! Haha

Yes. I have a mixed livery of green and orange. I do love my Kubota. Deere didn't have anything near what I was looking for in the price range I was at. I didn't want a 3033R...too many bells and whistles, but that was where I needed to be for adjustable wheels and gear drive. I really liked my old L275 except for the lack of power steeering
