Stuck Inside

If there aren't any outdoor chores to do and you're tired of TBN browsing, what do y'all do?

Me, I'm going to finish polishing my many pairs of boots, so as to be ready for some really cold and snowy weather that's coming.

We've got ICE here today. Luckily the power is still on. I just took the 4 year old boy out on the 6 wheeler to check the road conditions. Drove to a couple neighbors and said hi, they told us we're crazy. Roads look to be clearing off slightly but it's supposed to keep drizzling and get down to 10 degrees tonight so I'm expecting we'll be stuck out here in the boondocks again tomorrow.

Good "reasons" for going out to the shop:

Sharpen the kitchen knives.
Tighten the cookware handles.
Fix the broken laundry basket handles.

Any one of these can take all day.

Now There's a "Honey Doer".:)

In the shop changing brakes on my wife's Explorer. 7° outside but the sun just came out!

I replaced my last wax ring some 40 years ago. Next time it needed it I used a waxless toilet sealer. Glues to the bottom has a'rubber' neck that is rather flexible with a couple flexible collars. Makes a very good seal and is even reuseable.

minus 4 with high of 8 tomorrow - more in-house time.

We're going to the local social club for the customer appreciation party this afternoon. Tonight it is supposed to get -25 below F.

Going outside in shorts & t-shirt to do a little mowing and get ready for this evening, a cold front is coming through. Currently 76 degrees, tonight's forecast is 24 and slight chance of rain, Sunday high 31, Sunday night 20. Sunday will be my inside day.

I don't think my weather station would survive.

My wood heat doesn't heat incredibly even, but it's pretty consistently about 70 except at night.

72 inside, I won't let my wife see this post. We keep it about 62-63 inside all winter!

YIKES! Our furnace thermostat is kept at 72 all winter. The woodburner provides 80% of the heat and keeps the house about 73-74. When its really cold outside (like under 10), the furnace will come on about once per hour. Otherwise, it doesn't come on for days. Our waterbed is kept at about 94. Nice and warm.

We hit -9 this morning, coldest we've had in several years!

   / Stuck Inside #74
Yesterday's high was 78. Front came through and the overnight low was 19. We have autoseason thermostats set at 68 to 72 year round. So the AC was running during the day and the heat at night.

Well Mike, We got both ice and snow. Now you can get out in zero temps to clear it. Or stay inside and wait a few days for it to melt.
I think I will go out and push it just because I want to use the BX.

Keep warm.

Dave......hope your BX ride is fun. Me, ......think I'll wait a couple days. There wasn't all that much snow to deal with. Maybe just get the shovel out for the patios....cabin fever is setting in though.:)

Cheers,
Mike

Indoor days are my excuse not to fix or do things inside the house until days like this. I like to have something saved up to do when I can't be out doing what I really want to do.

The coldest I've seen was -20 on a thermometer at the apartment in Des Plaines, IL, in 1972. However, I think the official temperature reported was only -14. It warmed up to -5 the next day.

The coldest that I've seen here (kansas city area) was -26 back in the 80's one time. That cold air would freeze in the carburetor of my Dodge pickup (slant 6). It was at night, getting off work, that it would start fine..........but then die right after I stepped on the gas. As soon as the weather warmed up, it ran fine again. I had to walk to a service station and was so cold that I was shaking for quite awhile.

I'll bet the shelters are packed with people today, since it is only zero right now...........fortunately the wind is nearly calm.

Warm Cheers To All,
Mike
