Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

This truck has been on my radar for awhile. Looks like I may try to order one. Anybody hear that Ram is having trouble with the EPA certifying diesel engines for 2017? Word is that you cannot get a 2017 ED 1500 Ram. I'm looking to custom order one because I cannot find one rigged out the way I want with the Ram Box Lone Star Edition.

There is a thread on the Ecodiesel forum with people having lots of problems. Quite a few have been driving down the road and the engine flys to pieces. VM motori makes the engine for it. They also made the engine for the Liberty and Grand Cherokee CRD. When was the last time you saw one of them.

Congrats on the new truck. Did you keep the terd (aka Ford) F-150 or trade it in?

The most I could get on my '12 with 85K was $15.5K. I think I can sell it outright for about $18-22K. Shooting for $20K. I have repaired everything on the truck that needs repaired, the most recent item being the A/C evap coil. The truck runs and drives good.

I have read the thread. If you go to any vehicle fan site you will find multiple threads just like this one, especially for the ecoboost. I'm hoping to make this one my 200K ride, but I will update this thread if I run into any problems. Maybe the vehicle gods will cut me a break. I'm more worried about the emissions systems and fuel systems than the engine itself.

Well I bought it. 2016 4x4 Laramie with the 3.55 gears and an 8 speed transmission. Got 24.6 mpg on the trip home according to the computer.

Today is Day One. I will keep you updated if the truck gives any problems. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Is it the 1500 ED or a 2500/3500 Cummins?

1500 ED. Engine feels very strong, if not quite as "quick" as my 3.5EB. The EB feels more like a race car, the ED feels more like torquey power like a tractor. The engine is very quiet.

The 3.0L ED engine is a $3,000 option over the 5.7L Hemi, which is not far off from what the ecoboost engine costs. I bought this truck (Loaded Laramie with heated cooled leather seats 4x4) for about $43K which is what a few of the XLT F150's were going for. The best deal I could make on a F-150 4x4 XLT was about $38,500 but was low on the options lists. The avg price for a F150 XLT was $42K.
