Kinetic splitter

   / Kinetic splitter #21
I had the TSC Chinese kinetic spliter for a while my split fire with a 4 way is faster and safer.

The kinnetic likes to throw pieces back at the opperator if there are knots in the wood. They ride up the wedge and get propelled back.

It took a minimum of 3 splits to quarter a log with the kinetic whereas the splitfire does it in one

I also like the hydraulic log lift it makes a great table for smaller stuff

How heavy were the flywheels?

Yes I have run a SS, a couple different times. It was before I bought my TW, and sure the SS is faster, "in ideal wood", NOT when you throw in some in tough wood though. That's why I said, it depends on how ideal your wood is...

Put this on a SS, you won't even be close to aa fast as my TW,

IF the SS is so much faster, why didn't it beat the TW at the shoot out?? Equal wood and two man teams running their own splitters.

BTW, the table grate makes a HUGE difference in time...

Here's one for you, it get's fun when he hits a tough piece a little over 3 mins in,

That chunk would have been through my 4-way and ALL in the pile in less than 1/4th the time he was bam bam-ing...

I haven't seen the results for the most recent Sawmill & Woodlot competition yet but the Super Split beat the Timberwolf by a fair margin at a previous competition, equal wood and two man teams running their own splitters.

What's the Timberwolf selling for these days?

I was there, the TW really kicked it's azz, mostly because of some tough wood...

I'm not a TW dealer, I have no idea what todays price is?

Does Split Second make an Electric one like SS?
I'm contemplating an electric SS cause I get my electricity free.

Once again you fail to acknowledge my videos of showing how well a kinetic works on tough stuff.

What model SS did you try?

I would not dream of putting something that ugly on the Split Second. If I had a $10,000 hydraulic I wouldn't either. I take more pride in my firewood than that. I would have taken a saw and ripped it down the crotch when it was still attached to the tree then cut 16'' pieces off the tree. I could motor through it with my Split Second, no tractor required. When you get done splitting it you are going to have half of the pieces 24'' and the other half 36.''

LOL, that video shows how good the Super Split is. That is an old 75lb flywheel model, that is the entry level model today. I never really saw him hit anything tough. He hit a couple pieces twice. A 90lb model would have been through it the first time. The only thing I saw wrong with the video was he did not know how to attack a larger piece. He should have busted it in half then quarters etc instead of breaking small pieces off like he did.

In this day you think they would have made a video of the shoot out for everyone to see. The pictures you keep posting just show the guy standing there watching the Super Split. He should have been on the right side with the wood staged on the right (like the TW was setup) so he could easily load the splitter.

I'd like to to see a video of you lifting one of those big crotch pieces on to your TW and splitting it. Then we can see how fast it is and how easily it splits it. I have shared several videos of my splitter showing what it is capable of.

The TW3HD does not look as fast as my old Harbor freight splitter.

Hey Roger. I haven't heard about the Split second before, but I know a few places have cloned and/or improved the SS in recent years. I've had an SS for a few years now. It works well. What are the big improvements you found with the split second vs SS? Curious.

Yes, I sometimes have to hit wood extra times when it is really squirrely stuff. Rob, if somebody gave you a pile of crotches and gnarley stuff to split, I'd be more concerned about what it was you did to make that man angry rather than which splitter you have, since that isn't normal firewood. :D Firewood is normally a mix. You get a few crotches, and a lot of straight stuff. The SS is faster on the straight stuff, and then can need a couple hits on tougher stuff that a hydraulic would keep pushing through. Though you can stall either one. But if you are running 80-90% straight wood with some crotches thrown in (like you would expect in a normal mix), overall you certainly won't be any worse with a kinetic than a hydraulic.

And Roger - keep your hands off the round when splitting! Or at best only on top. A couple times there, you had your fingers over the edge... Keep all 10 intact!

I don't know the model SS I tried?

Pride in your firewood? MY wood stove has NEVER complained about ANY piece of wood I put in it! lol lol I burn my firewood, not admire how it looks!

I ALSO posted a vid of a SS in tough wood...

I don't "lift" wood onto the beam of my splitter, I work SMARTER not harder! I roll or slide them off my wagon onto the beam.

I have no idea how fast your splitter is? Mine is plenty fast, and it will push EVERYTHING through the 4 way, the FIRST try, not 5 minutes to get one chunk split, like in the vid I posted.

Hundreds of folks saw what happen at the shoot out, including me... No excuses needed... lol

Lastly, I don't have a $10,000.00 splitter, so I have no idea how one runs... BUT I EXPECT any splitter in my possession, to split EVERYTHING I need split, and my TW will do it, first try every try, no need to break out the chainsaw, taking even more time to get my wood split!
