I suspect your right. We may never have a satisfactory answer to why pallets are stacked in inverted V configurations in some parts of the world.

I'm pro pallet too... the issue arose when the pallets turned against each other.

Seems to me a thread of carving grooves in pallets with a chainsaw is a natural progression here. Then they wouldn't slide when you try to pick them up with forks and they would have greater traction when leaning against each other in fields.
