Steering Brakes,,, A Necessity,, Or A Nicety?? (41HP, 3000 Lb Tractor)

2wd raking hay going on a side slope then up the hill it was an absolute necessity. I'd rather have them and not need them then need them and not have them. I am an infrequent user of any large tractor but when I rake for my father in law there are no flat areas around here and even cutting the corners they're needed.

I was complaining to him that it was near impossible to go side and up without sliding. He told me about the brakes and use them every single time I rake for him now.

Then I learned about the locker. He's a trial by fire type of teacher. I remember the first time I drove his 4wd ford 7610.

Anyway I'm a novice and use steering brakes frequently bc of terrain.

We need them here for much the same reasons the off camber steep slopes we have around here. You just can't keep a straight line sometimes when out in the snow without them. Sometimes they are the only steering your really have. Just one more arrow in the quiver...

Since the 4105 has 4x4 you may get away without the steering brakes for mowing. But some of the other dirt work jobs I would want them. Curious if the 4105 has differential lock? I would have to have either steering brakes or differential lock to get out of wet spots. I much prefer having both.

Well,, I went to the dealer and wrote the check today,,,
they will deliver it in a day or two

It does have a differential lock,
and maybe the tires are big enough that steering brakes will be less of an issue??

I definitely will be using the power washer,, it is only 3 years old.
A little paint might needed,,, too!!
Anyone have an extra wire brush laying around they want to donate?? :confused2:

I bought it as is,, but, at least they will deliver it,,,

I rarely if ever use them on tractors with loaders. On my B7200 I use them a lot because it's too front end light to steer.

That is kinda what I am expecting,, I will need weight,,,
Hmmmmm,,,
Maybe fluid in the front tires,, the wheels are drilled for weights,,,
I do have three front end suitcase weights setting around doing nothing,, 100 pounds each,,,

I suspect that 300 lbs. on the front would be about perfect on the 4105.

Is the lower right lift arm bent?

If all you're trying to do is pull a 72" mower I think you'll be fine. My L3240 base tractor outweighs it by about 400 pounds and it doesn't have any trouble with a finish mower. I've never tried it without the loader on which would make a substantial difference but I still expect I could handle it fine. My B7200 even handles a 750 pound mower moderately ok. It handles the lighter 400 pound mower like a champ. With a 3 foot rotary cutter on the b7200 my steering is pretty bad. A finish mower rides on its own wheels and doesn't lift up the front of the tractor.
