You know,, the top link in your pic does not need tractor hydraulics??

It is self contained! ,,, just open and close the little valve.

What do you mean? I don't need to run hydraulic lines from my diverter? What open and closes the values to move the cylinder?

Trust me, you don't want it.

Most (?all) hydraulic top links are run from rear remotes and controlled by the levers in the operators station. Nothing to do with FEL controls or diverters.

See my hydraulic toplink connected to rear remotes in photo.

This sounds like a good addition to my tractor. How do I go about determining the length of the Hydraulic top link I need for my tractor. Do I measure my current top link fully retracted and fully extended and use those measurements.
Also I already have a third function on the rear of my tractor. Is that all I will need to work the hydraulic top link

This is what I recommend to determine what will work best. You need to figure that you need at a minimum of 3" of stroke in both directions. Typically I try to build units to have 1/2"-1" more retraction than extension, just helps out to be able to get the implement up that much higher when in rough ground or loading onto a trailer.

Yes your 3rd function will work to operate a hydraulic top link.

Many people that do not have loaders with their tractors, but the tractor comes with the loader (mid SCV) valve and use that valve for controlling rear hydraulics. JD even sets some of their tractors up specifically to use the mid SCV with a diverter to operate 2 sets of rear remote outlets.

My old Bobcat tractor did not have it but my JCB has factory Top n Tilt along with hydraulic rippers. It is amazing how nice that is for cleaning up. I was just out cleaning up snow and the fine adjustment is really nice for scraping the snow and ice without getting the gravel. Also nice for shaping and things like drainage. Now I would add this function to any tractor I had in the future.

That makes sense for utility tractors but virtually all CUTs sold these days are sold with loaders so there aren't likely to have unused loader valves. I guess is does make sense if you don't have rear remotes and aren't using a loader though.

Well, I have just dealt with 3 tractors 40hp and smaller in the last month with no loaders and they are not the first. Yes you are right as in most CUT's have loaders, but to suggest that it is not common, well, please determine common. Like I said, JD sets their tractors up that way, and that is the 4000 series machines which are CUTs and I think that even the 3000 series machines are that way now. So it is not just utility sized equipment.

I guess my notion of "common" references discussions here on TBN. I know you deal with this a lot more than I do.

Most companies are now essentially bundling FELs it seems with a variety of "giveaways". When I drive past tractor dealers virtually all the CUTs in the lot seem to have loaders mounted. But, as you point out, there certainly are some that don't have loaders. I still don't understand why a factory or dealer would add relatively expensive FEL valves etc if they don't bother adding the loader. I can imagine selling a naked tractor without FEL but why bother with the valving etc in that case.

1870 hours on this tractor,, nothing was ever connected to these ports,,,
and nothing was ever connected to the PTO,,, either,,, :confused2:

i am surprised the PO did not torch off the valve control lever,,
that would have made it easier to get on the tractor,,,
