Anyone have a LED dusk to dawn pole light?

/ Anyone have a LED dusk to dawn pole light? #91
I just took some of my own financial advice and threw about a dozen BR30 take out bulbs in the trash. I decided since there is a negative financial impact in using them, what am I saving them for? I am pretty sure there are more of them around her, but couldn't find them.

Someone needs to teach you about money.

You already paid for them, granted not alot. But you need to do some math before buying new lights, when you already have lights. Fixture fails, would be the best time.

You get the same people who buy a new car, when there's is paid for, cause it it is better on gas.

Sometimes the math may work, to just go spend money. But most people don't do math. Just what feels good.

I have a few different types of light fixtures in my house, so it is not that I am boycotting anything.

A few months back I put some LED floodlights in an outdoor fixture I have as a trial. Bulbs were supposed to last forever. Anyway, wife just told me that one of them had burned out.

Sometimes I wonder about some of the cheap LEDs that have come out. The Harbor Freight of LEDs. Getting people to buy them just cause LED.

I wonder how they can make them so cheap. Though they are made in China, and economy of scale. More you make, cheaper you can male them, or maybe they are just cheap.

I did the math..I am actually fairly good at math.. At the current cost of LED bulbs you are ahead to throw away you incandescent bulbs and go buy new LED bulbs. Yes the incandescent bulbs were paid for when I bought the house. BUT you lose money every day you operate them. I keep telling ya, this is not about "green feel good" this is about "green in your pocket". However YOU may do what every pleases you.

I will tell you what..since you are good with money and all.. How would you like to buy my case of 12 brand new BR30 Sylvania bright white 65 watt flood lights, in the never opened case? I would be very pleased to unload them on you for a very very good price. What say you?

Below is one of the worse posts in this thread. You may be able to cypher, but story problems are not your thing.

7700 lumens for 175 watts vs. 4000 lumens for 38 watts consumed. Lets do some math

The first bulb uses 175 watts s $83.04 per year to run on average

Now the LED which does only produce a little more than half the light :You realize this but continue.
is $18.03 per year to run it. A savings of 83.04-18.03= $65.01 per year savings. at!:D
It would be savings of $83 -18x2=$47. This does not account for purchasing a 2nd light, wire, materials. If you had to pay an electrician, you will probably never break out.

Now if the good fairy installed a second LED light on your pole, you would have saved.

Sure you would. You pay for the light and installation only once...You save forever... I agree that it is not as easy to save a lot of money on the high wattage outdoor lamps if you have to install multiple units and more fixtures... But replacing a light bulb? That is a no brainer. Same or better light, and constant savings. So much savings. that you would be a fool to continue using your incandescent bulbs.. But hey, you can come to what ever conclusion you want. I am not trying to shove an LED down your throat, and I wish you were here to receive the bulbs I threw in the trash today.. I would have been happy to give them to you. Heck if you showed up, on the doorstep, I reckon I would give you the case of brand new ones too. How about that? See, my heart doesn't pump purple pixx!

I would worry more about the state of your electrical, or your knowledge of what was going on in your house. What are you doing running the coffee pot, microwave, and vacuum on the same circuit?

I have no idea where you got the idea that I am running the coffee pot, microwave and vacuum on the same circuit. I never said that and I don't have that.

Maybe you need to take a break from the thread.

It was a joke. Something is very wrong if your lights are tripping the breaker. Doesn't sound like you have a handle on what is going on in your home.

D

My HPS sodium is 100W and has 9900 lumens. To get that much out of an LED based on the amazon link posted earlier I would be well over $100 for the bulb, vs 10 or 15 for mine.

If the goal is light in your yard, then lumens are what counts.

I have this one on my pole barn and am very happy with the amount of light and the light is bright white, also like that the bulb is replaceable.

Feit 73995 3W Replacement 5K Non-Dimmable LED Yard Light - - Amazon.com

38 watt 4000 lumens, vs my HPS 100 w 9900 lumen, 40% of the light output. I put lights up to see in the dark.

This is saying look at all the money I am saving, by being in the dark.

For your lamp, or indoor lights, LED may be there. But I question if the technology has matured for high output out door lights. That we are having this discussion is sad day in America. Not because of our lighting choices, but that we have men, saying how much they are saving, by getting less light, and how less light is better.

I guess they were told to put on sweater.
