I stocked up on incandescents too. I am also armed and willing to defend them.

You aren't the only one.

I just bought this 60W equivalent with a whopping 7,232 lumens for a pretty high 120 lumen/watt efficiency. 6 Watt LED Wall Pack Light - 7, 232 Lumens- High Efficiency 12 Lumen to Watt - 5K Bright White - Replaces 4-5W - 1, Hour LED Wall Light-Commercial Grade Wall Pack LED Wall Lighting - - Amazon.com

And if it pisses someone off, too bad, so sad:

It will replace two 150 incandescent lights so the math comes out like this:

150x2 = 300 watts at two hours/day = 730 hrs/year or 7300 hours for 10 years = 7300x300 = 2,190 KW hrs. At $.10/KW hr = $219.

Vs.

60x1 = 60 at 2hrs/day = 730 hours/year = 7300 hours for 10 years = 7300x60 = 438 KW-hrs. At $0.10/ KW-hr = $43.8, which = $219 - $43.8 = $175.20 savings over 10 years. This of course doesn't include the cost of replacing the incandescent light bulbs, which I've done already a couple times since I've lived here.

It also assumes I did the math correctly, which I think I did.

The other problem of course, is that now I gotta climb a stupidly high ladder to replace the fixture, which is over my garage door. I don't do heights very well. Not looking forward to it. :(

I also stocked up on incandescent bulbs a few years ago, but with the prevalence of LEDs and the different lighting options they have available now, I guess that when I pass on, my wife can put out big boxes of incandescent bulbs in the yard sale with a sign saying "whole box - $1.00"

Savings have been dramatic in Mom's 1959 home...

The bedrooms had 3 ea 100W bulbs and now have 3 ea Cree 9.5W true color... she likes them and paying for 28.5W vs 300W is a no brainer if they last...

I still go through a fair amount of incandescent... mostly 60W and some 40W bulbs.

Common for people to vacate a unit and never replace light bulbs or replace with compact florescent...

I make sure all fixtures work at turnover and use incandescent as I've had an entire home full of LED disappear.

You have found the ideal use for our old incandescent bulbs. I don't blame you for not equipping the rentals with LED's, as I imagine they are still expensive enough for people to steal.

Did she actually need 3 100W bulbs. Wow that is alot. Again need to talk about lumens and cost to purchase.

I don't dispute they are cheaper to run. I question the cost to purchase. If you get them on sale might be. Also for lights that are on alot.

They may be the future, but I think price needs to come down. Though the government has interfered, and has forced us to buy them,

The reality is she had an assortment of bulb sizes... one had two 75W and one 100... another had a 60 and 75W

I do remember is a kid my Grandmother always used 100W... she had problems seeing and needed a lot of light.

I think with Mom's place it was more a question of what she had on hand.

3 bedrooms with 3 bulb fixtures, master with a 4 bulb fixture... bathrooms with 4 bulb fixtures, garage with 4ea 3 bulb circa 1960 florescent...

I bought all the CREE bulbs a couple of years back at Home Depot as a Christmas present for her... so far all the bulbs are going strong... even replaced the 150W "Reader" bulb she had where she reads with a CREE flood light.

Mom likes the LED light... I paid around $8 a bulb back then... although I have friends in other parts of the country that paid $4 for CREE through some utility rebate program...

Electricity here is high and typically it averages out around 25 cents a kWh
