Kubota M7060
Took delivery on new tractor 5 weeks ago. Love it with one exception: getting out of Park is extremely difficult. It was difficult from day 1, but today took 5-10 minutes each time to get it out of Park. I've tried releasing the clutch and the brake and re-trying, and it doesn't help.

From day 1 I've had to use two hands to shift out of Park. It seemed to be getting a little better, but today was almost impossible. I had to remove the seatbelt, scoot over to the right, and wrestle with it to get it to go. Shifting from other gears is no problem. Today was the coldest day since I got it - not sure if this was playing a role. It was so difficult today I actually considered just leaving it in neutral on flat ground so as to avoid the wrestling match.

My assumption is that something needs to be adjusted. I did not expect it to shift like a Corvette, but this is unacceptable. I plan to call the dealer tomorrow, but figured I'd try to get some insight from TBN. Thoughts? Is this a common problem? Is it easily fixed?

Have you tried to lift the front tires off the ground a tiny bit with the loader then shift it out? Maybe it is in 4WD and the parking lock is linked to that? I don't know as I just park my 7040 on level ground, lower the loader and the 3pt cutter. Never have used the parking brake.

I haven't tried this, and it's not in four wheel drive, but thanks for the suggestion.

Then I would expect the dealer to either provide a clue or make an adjustment. Good luck, they will figure it out, I am sure.

Sounds like a dry link. Might want to look at linkage

I've read several posts of owners with M7040's having this problem but not the M7060's. The M7040 owners eventually had it fixed by dealer adjustment to the linkage. Your dealer is the correct route. I'm sure You'll be happy with the tractor after it's fixed.

Thanks for the responses. I have called the dealer, and a mechanic will be calling me today to discuss. I'll keep TBN posted on results.

To my knowledge M7040 have no "park position" in trans but one can lock down turning/stopping brakes. I know that's the way my '11 M7040 is BUT I never lock the brake pedals down for fear of forgetting the brakes are applied. I think Kubota should have supplied a "brake applied" WARNING LIGHT or BUZZER on my tractor.

I agree with sandyc that shift linkage may need some lubrication.

Is this a new feature of a true 'park' in the transmission on M7060s or the locking of the parking brake?

I very seldom use lock on brakes...just drop the bucket if concern about movement.

The only thing I can think of is the "High-Low" shift lever. We could use some guidance as to what actually is sticking.

I've got an M7040 and M6800 and the only park type function would be the locking brake pedal. If it's the H-L lever, they all stick and a little oil and usage is the key there. On the brake, I just grunt and push down hard to release it.

I wonder if he realizes you have to press the brake pedal really hard to release the lock, and he's just using the lever?

Thanks for the suggestion about pushing the brake pedal really hard, but I don't think that's it. I have tried pushing as hard as possible, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Nor does holding it down for a while and releasing, nor doing the same with the clutch. I have called the dealer twice now, and both times he has said I would hear from a mechanic asap with a plan. Just contacted him again, for the third time.

Our M8540 has a separate lever by the shift lever for "park", I believe the M60 Series have a different system.

Does your transmission have a "park" feature or are you talking about the brake pedal not releasing or the hi-lo gearshift not going into high or low? I thought the M7060 has a hydraulic shuttle shift with a H-L lever and the typical brake pawl thing where you step on the pedal and then lift or release the handle. I'm just not familiar with your setup.

The transmission has a Park feature. When getting off the tractor, the shift selector is supposed to be in Park. This is the only parking brake on the tractor. No brake pawl (but I wish it had one).

Sorry for the confusion- Absolutly right with the M7040 - no park feature. It must have been an issue with shifting to another gear. Yes, the M7060 12 speed trans has the park feature.

You might try to push the lever up.... over to the right .... counter clockwise.... basicly forcing the lever to the outside... thats what seems to work best for me.

I'm not a big fan of this type of parking brake and it will take some getting used to.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. That is exactly what I have been doing. It requires two hands for me to do it, but up until recently it would work without too much effort. Now even that doesn't work. The dealer is sending out staff today or tomorrow. I look forward to hearing his suggestions.
