Ford 641- Sherman Transmission and Live PTO? Advice Requested

If it is in really good shape, that would be a buy! Check out the front axle mount (the part that bolts the front of the engine). I have seen them crack, rust through, and wear out where the king pin goes through. Most of this would be cause by loader abuse. Anyway, that is one thing one should look for that may not be on the list of obvious checkpoints.

I'd use it with a 5' brush hog to cut 6- 10 acres of old pasture land twice each year. Since I mow about 15 acres of lawn every week during the growing season, it would be a nice backup tractor to have with my unused rear finish mower. I could see using it from time to time with a rear blade for snow removal.

If it runs good, probably a decent price.
Older tractors don't have 540 pto, believe they are faster. On our 8N We had a pto adapter to gear down the speed when we used our baler.

Did you test drive it? Do not see a battery in photos? Carb needle or float Might be sticking. If it runs and drives with no noise the price is not Bad but in todays old tractor market prices are way down and least here in the north east. Other than the paint what work did he say he had done to the tractor? If there's wiggle room I would offer less. If the main objective is brushogging and you don't feel you need the howard than pass on it and look for a ford 660 661 860 861 with live pto. Because the howard trans in that model is so rare it will surely add value to the tractor so it's up to you.

Another potential buyer is inspecting it tomorrow so the seller may not be as willing to negotiate.. not sure. Any feedback on the $3,500 asking price?

I don't think any of us can tell you if the price is right. Only you can decide if it's worth it to you.

The deal didn't work out. I won't go into detail but I was raised to believe a man's word is something he's bound to honor. Apparently the almighty dollar was more important to this seller.

It's just a well. I learned a lot and I expect to find something even better...maybe a near-perfect 861 diesel with power steering!
