Ok I was chastised for not taking some time to search forums so I did and have not seen anything to help me out here.

I have a DK40SE. The shuttle shift is not working. It acts like it wants to go into reverse but it won't. It won't even act like it might go into forward. I don't have the RPMs up. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Does it help if you put the main (1-2-3-4) shifter in neutral? Are you sure the clutch is fully disengaging?

Have not tried putting gear shifter in neutral. Wouldn't think I would have to. I can get into forward, neutral, or reverse using the clutch.

Not sure what you mean here.
It goes into forward/reverse with the clutch.
The DK40 SE requires using the clutch to forward/reverse

I think he meant he can shuttle the lever into the three different positions using the clutch. But no tractor movement.

Not familiar with the tractor. Is the shuttle non-synchronized mechanical?? Will only grind gears if you try to put the lever into forward/reverse without using the foot clutch?? That's how I would test the lever to make sure it's doing what it's supposed to. If no grinding, then lever isn't engaging shuttle gear.

The DK SE series were synchronized mechanical shuttle

So without using the clutch it would be hard to get the shuttle lever into the forward/reverse position? The synchronizer would try to do it's job which might prevent shuttle lever movement. If enough pressure is exerted the synchronizer will give up and then it will grind into gear. If none of these things happen then the shuttle lever is not moving the gear.

wrflt: Are you trying to shift the shuttle without fully disengaging the clutch? That would be serious operator abuse. Unless you have a power shuttle (which don't think was available on the SE) you MUST put the clutch pedal full down before shifting the shuttle. If you break it by abusing it that way, it will cost big buck$$ to fix it.

Ok I can see where I didn't clarify my question. Let me try.

A friend recently bought a Mahindra with shuttle shift and told me he could shift from forward to reverse or visa versa with the tractor in motion without pressing the clutch. Sounded like heaven to me because when doing a lot of loader work, it wears my left leg out! Ha. Anyway, I told him mine wouldn't do that and he stated it should. I checked the manual and it says I can shift this lever while in motion with the clutch disengaged as these gears are synchromesh, and here is where I think I have found "my" problem. I'm no gearhead. I was taking disengaged as meaning I didn't have to press the clutch. I see on here that "disengaging the clutch" means to press the pedal. So, I guess my Kioti doesn't have that feature but I sure do wish it did. I move a lot of dirt and it requires shifting that lever constantly.

I apologize for causing a stir...but in fact I did find my answer from y'all. Thanks

The DK 40se is not a hydraulic shuttle and requires using the clutch to shift and to forward/reverse.
Hydraulic shuttles can be shifted forward/reverse without using the clutch.
Use the clutch on the DK 40 or transmission damage is likely.
