1.3 gigs in. Should save me nearly $50/mo over what I currently have (which is also an att data plan). Hard to beat that.

I have mine working as a dual WAN setup, load balanced with my standard ISP, and it's working great. Download speeds have been as high as 40 Mbps. I'm currently streaming the St. Louis Cardinals baseball game through DirecTVNow. I actually did that a couple times away from home this weekend too.

So far so good! We'll see how stable it is. I've used 29 GB of data since we got it.

Sad indeed, ATT requires Social Security Number and date-of-birth for a new customer to open an account, that was a Mobley deal-breaker for me. Apparently a functioning, validate credit card number is insufficient to pay a $20/mo. bill. :confused2:

Probably needed for credit check.

That is correct. With a post-paid plan like this, they are extending credit.

Got the antenna mod install, pretty easy. Followed to HoFo link.
I then drilled a hole in the case:

Only seeing about 5-8 db improvement, but that good enough to move the Mobley to the interior spot I want to place it. A quick Speedtest 15/5. Considering my successor ISP is want $80/month for 10-15mb dl (shared, not guaranteed) this for $20 is a bargain.

I want to stabilize with a bit of museum putty. Will likely try the Yagi antenna at some point.

Now to get Mobley hooked to a Picostation.

Impressive, I am getting 4 bars of signal, would doing something like this really help me? I am getting mid 20s down most of the time.

I don't understand how the no contract plan is considered post pay? Do you not have to pay the bill up front on the no contract plan?

I agree with the poster that says to hang up and move on if you get someone that doesn't know how to activate the plan. I got into a situation with another carrier when I changed my phone from a contract plan to prepaid. The person told me I could do it then proceeded to sign me up on a brand new 2 year contract on a phone I already owned. 3 months and 3 pages of contact notes later I finally had it straightened out. Funny thing was they ended up showing they owed me on the plan I didn't request.

I think if someone tells you they have to sign you up on one plan then change it you can expect a lengthy resolution process.

As bad as they are in my area I am still interested in attempting this. My local Best Buy shows them in stock but they don't show ANY plan details. One of the online tower locators indicates an AT&T tower within range so I might be able to locate the unit in my North window and get reception.

Thanks for the info on the ZTE Mobley. I need to figure out how I can use this.

Whether you have a contract or not does not impact the payment. Unless you specifically have a "pre-paid" type of plan you are paying for your usage during the past month when you pay your bill. Makes sense... They aren't collecting $20 + fees/taxes up front when you buy and activate the Mobley, are they?

no they are not, its a post paid plan so you pay a month behind. My next bill due in May will be for April usage, its like a water or electric bill.
