I think they are steel castings but should be forgings. Yes, it must maintain it's original shape to allow it to move freely through the gates. You could have a new piece machined from tough billet steel and welded to the ball. Did you try Circle-G?

Fortunate the piece didn't wipe out the gears.

I've seen people adapt shift levels from other cars to work... one guy even made one from a Model A Ford lever and Model A's use a lot of forged steel.

Tool and Die makers can buy threaded balls and you might be able to source one that could be threaded to the old shaft.

None of the above would be as cheap as finding an OEM

Thanks!!!!

I knew you would respond Bob!!!

I am extremely lucky it didn't wipe out the gears. I had to fish wish a magnet last night, in the dark and raining just to get the sheared off end out of the transmission case.

It was wonderful.

I am ordering the part now!!!!

Bob, check out my JD 1020D thread. I love 3 cylinders diesels, but I guess I don't have a choice lol.

Also Bob I read on another forum about another gentlemen who had this happen to his Yuchai Dozer. He was barking a lot about some of the issues he was dealing with on his Dozer.

He made a good point that the plates where the gear selector shaft ball moves around to select each gear should be filed down. The plates edges are sharp, and are def. what caused the shaft to shear off after hours of use.

Don't know of the other fellow. Most of the folks I know of are pretty satisfied with their Yuchai's. But then there are the ones that would gripe even if they were hanged with a new rope. Lol.

This would be a good thing to check when a dealer does a pre-delivery service, although now I have over 700 hours on mine. Maybe I'll pop one of mine out for inspection.
