Advice on potential purchase (Nortrack 3500B)

Almost bought a Nortrac and just as I was ready a D3 showed up locally for the same price.

The Nortrac would have been more versatile and I could transport... the D3 sure did a nice job putting in fire trails... and 17 years later sold it for close to what I had in it...

It usually works that way for equipment that is well taken care of. Good on you!

I received the new part I ordered from Circle G and got it installed.

Everything fit like it should and the Nortrac 3500B is back up and going.

I will post another update about all the projects I am currently working on around the place.

Never ending of course!!!

Thanks again everyone!!!

Good going and thanks for the follow up.

Great feeling to make a repair and be up and running with work waiting...

TBN is a great resource and much appreciated.

Hey Bob,

I seemed to have misplaced my manuals.

That being said I would like to tighten my tracks/make a track adjustment.

Can you provide me with a quick rundown on how to perform this? What to turn, etc.?

Can the Dozer be sitting on the ground?

Thanks!!!

Drive the tractor forward for about six feet to get the slack on top. Wire brush and apply penetrating oil to the threads of the yoke rod that extends into the spring cylinder (if you have been greasing that fitting it should go easy) then, turn the nut on the yoke rod counter-clockwise to extend the rod. However, bear in mind that track tension is controlled by the spring, not the adjustment. Should achieve about 1" to 1-1/2" of slack between the sprocket and top carrier roller. Don't over-tighten, you need that spring travel to keep from breaking the final drive shaft from debris caught between tracks and sprocket. If only these machines had carrier covers and decent rock guards, but they don't.

Can the Dozer be sitting on the ground? Yes, it must be. Do not suspend it in the air.

Thanks!!!

Something happened to my above post. Stuff is missing.

There is a lock bolt on the idler yoke that must be loosened before you attempt to turn the rod. Also, there is a bolt with lock nut on the face of the spring cylinder - this needs to be threaded in in order to lock the threaded spring headplate to keep it from turning. You will feel a detent when it locks and more effort will be required to turn the rod. Unscrew the bolt from the detent when finished with adjustment and lock it in place.
