It seems like the regulations are a lot stiffer in Canada. Around here we can haul pretty much whatever we want without any trouble. I couldn't legally haul a pedal tractor on my rollback in Canada just be reading this thread. I could make my 3500 dump illegal with a single tractor bucket scoop of gravel. I weighed the 3500 with the lightest load of logs I've hauled and it weighed 13,500 pounds. It handles the load fine which is about 3 tons.

Very observant people I must say. Yes, buddies truck must have been a 3/4 ton. I thought the one he has now was his first.

Another dubious adventure. The front tires of the Kubota are loaded right to the very top, I don't remember why, but we ended up taking off the hoe and getting it on another trip.

This poor guy gets to do just about all my moving it seems. Actually, now that I think about it, he was borrowing the Kubota, so I don't feel so bad.

Well, I got to inspect my trailer options at his place yesterday. An older five ton tandem dump, or a brand new deck over 2X 3500# tandem. I think we will take the deck over. It's 16 feet but eighty something inches WIDE, and I really don't like the idea of pulling that through construction zones!

90 inches is only 7.5 feet. How wide is your truck?

My deckover is 102 inches, that is 8.5 feet.

After reading all of your comments, I gotta say I don't think you have any business trailering. You have no idea how to balance a load, you are scared to pull a 7' wide trailer, you don't want to spend the $$ to be legal, and you don't seem to have any desire to be safe.

Yes, I'm making a rude, obnoxious suggestion. At this point I'm glad that it is unlikely that I will encounter you on the road.

Sadly, I agree.

Well, I never professed to be the worlds best driver. And as I said, I have never liked pulling a trailer. But damm, I am a thinking and cautious individual and that I believe makes me a far safer driver then almost all the retards and brain dead people I see on the roads, without any understanding of physics, safe following distance or adhesion under varying conditions. I also have not had an at fault accident in three decades, and that one I blame on ABS brakes. Ultimately my fault, but it would not have happened without those stupid, useless ABS brakes.

Anyway, sixteen hundred dollars later and my truck has the safety sticker.

In my opinion a large part of driver quality is understanding the capabilities of the equipment being driven.
