The food manufacturers gotta put in the high fructose corn syrup and other sugars. How else are they going to get a nation of insulin dependent diabetics?

Speaking of: type 2 diabetes is reversible through diet. I did several brain dumps on this thread but especially on page 11.

The OP is learning that cutting out sugars and carbs is causing his body's inflammation to decrease leading to a much higher quality of life.

So are you saying ignore the joint pain and eat what you want? I'm ok limiting sugar if it means my hands and shoulders do not hurt. I'm 49, I plan on being here for awhile longer and preferably without lots of pain. Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly.

I'm 49 as well. Have more than my fair share of aches and pains. I'm sure they are reminders of my past years of abuse as a Kris on motorcycles and ice rinks as well as wear and tear on a daily basis with a physically demanding job for 35 years. ... I'm 100% certain what I eat is not the source of my Advil needs.

I'm 70 and I do have my share of aches and pains. Cutting out sugar means to me that I don't get as many cramps in my legs or hands anymore. With the cramps and pain gone it doesn't mean I will be able to play the violin or the bagpipes any better than I did 40 years ago.
I do not take any pills/goobers for pain.

I think Eric wins the prize.
Inflammation hinders every function and diet is the source.
Compound poor diet with washed out, deficient, antibiotically tinkered with and inept digestive microflora, and its a recipe for disaster.
If you've ever taken a course of antibiotics you have altered the balance of your microflora. It may spring back, or it may get fundamentally altered.
Scientists agree that a healthy digestive tract community improves digestive and immune system functioning--some speculate the biome should be considered another system in and of itself.
When you load raw sugars and starches you favor the narrow group of inhabitants that favor those food sources. Choices affect the balance.
Fermented foods, raw foods, (there are many resources online) get as much lactobacillus as you can tolerate, and your digestive system will start feeding the rest better.
Good luck Gale. I am glad you are feeling better.

I would have said something similar 5 years ago. I now can't dispute that what I eat affects me with processed sugar being at the top of the list. Limit it and I feel much better. I am a very active guy who has perfect weight for my size. Enjoy your Advil.

I've come to the opinion that if your diet is crazy but works, don't change it. I have a guy in my office who eats a slice of grain bread and a tomato for lunch. Every day. for the entire 3 years I have worked there. When I mentioned it someone said " He used to be a great big fat guy". The guy who said that is well over 300 lbs.....I shrugged my shoulders. It works for him. I know a guy who eats nothing but oranges for weeks at a time when he needs to lose weight. he gets down to a "normal weight" then starts eating regular food and eats more than he should....and a few months later....its a sack of oranges a day.
I don't want to do it.....but what do I know?

I finally decided to make a diet change and cut out sugars and starches except for an occasional (one a week or less if possible) splurge. At first I was all hung up on reading labels (still do) but if you can just EAT FRESH food as much as possible you will be most of the way there. That means fats are okay in moderation too. Watch things like low fat milk... actually it is supplemented with sugar to make it taste 'good'.

I found that I need to go on a two week No Sugar No Pasta run to reset my body. Then I reintroduce less desirable foods as 'pleasures' This really reduces/controls my weight.

I will say it again... EAT FRESH FOOD whatever it is. Very hard to do on a business trip unfortunately.
