We have organic sugar in the cupboard but it only goes into two things. Hummingbird feeders and peanut butter cookies. I treat myself to 1/4 of a cookie per day and the 3 dogs split another 1/4 cookie. Other than that we eat out once or twice a week and try to choose healthy low fat/sugar choices.

Tom, you have a 1/4, the dogs split a 1/4, where does the other 1/2 go?

I think Eric wins the prize.
Inflammation hinders every function and diet is the source.
Compound poor diet with washed out, deficient, antibiotically tinkered with and inept digestive microflora, and its a recipe for disaster.
If you've ever taken a course of antibiotics you have altered the balance of your microflora. It may spring back, or it may get fundamentally altered.
Scientists agree that a healthy digestive tract community improves digestive and immune system functioning--some speculate the biome should be considered another system in and of itself.
When you load raw sugars and starches you favor the narrow group of inhabitants that favor those food sources. Choices affect the balance.
Fermented foods, raw foods, (there are many resources online) get as much lactobacillus as you can tolerate, and your digestive system will start feeding the rest better.
Good luck Gale. I am glad you are feeling better.

Inflammation is the key that I have learned in practice and from reading since Oct 2014. Currently my only objective is to lower my C-Reactive Protein level when it comes to how I eat, move and think. I am still off of the added sugars and all forms of all grains. Last weekend we had fruit like Kiwi, strawberries, grapes and blue berries that were going bad that the others had bought. I pigged out on them for two days and gained two pounds (water weight from the carb load) this morning the two pounds were gone plus another pound after some fasting tests yesterday. Keto (eating just under 50 grams of carbs daily) does a lot for my general health. The optometrist thanks the keto may be what has stopped my progression of cataracts.

I agree any way that works for one having better health may be right for that person.

This is the first I've heard of sugar causing pain. I was gonna post that I eat and drink my share without these side effects and wouldn't you know I woke up with my neck and shoulders aching like no tomorrow.

I altered my diet some years back. In 2006 I had a heart event that sent me to the hospital where I received 3 stents in my arteries. Prior to that I smoked unfiltered camels for 40+ years. After that the doctors put me on drugs to control cholesterol and platelet formation. It was my wake up call to quit smoking which was a breeze after I made my mind up to do it. It's crazy how something is so hard to do until you make your mind up then it was like turning a switch off. I quit cold turkey and I never missed them.

Oh, back to my diet alteration. At first I didn't change my diet and the drugs were working to keep my blood tests in check. I got sick of taking the drugs after about 5 years and decided to try to control my life by diet. The main change I made was to cut out french fries and started eating more fruits and vegetables. At first I started tapering back on the drugs. The doctor was having blood tests done every 6 months and my tests were coming back great. I eventually STOPPED the drugs and my tests continued to come out great. I have been drug free for 6 years and finally got dialed back to being checked once a year. The doc wasn't happy with me when I told him I tapered the drugs back but he finally gave me the okay to try and stop them. Every time I go in he tells me how much he hates that I was right and didn't need the drugs with my diet changes.

If I start having these pains I had today on a regular basis I guess I will need to try tapering back on sugar. These pains remind me of how I felt on the first cholesterol medicine they prescribed. It seems to be controlled with ibuprofen though.

I have always been light weight and had low blood pressure so i didn't make the changes in salt and sugar intake I probably should.

You may have just slept wrong if it doesn't happen much. Me it's joint pain mainly in my hands and shoulders which I work with constantly. I was told by the old school doc it was arthritis because I'm getting old, take ibuprofen. The same guy wants me to take a statin, phooey on that. Funny how a small thing like less sugar and more fruits/veggies curbs that pain but no one except my new doc would tell me that. She takes everything into consideration and spends more than 10 minutes with me.

JD, kudos to you for changing things up to gain a better quality of life.

Tom, you have a 1/4, the dogs split a 1/4, where does the other 1/2 go?

Stays in the freezer cookie jar. I cut them into 1/4 when they are still on the cookie sheet, one thing my older brother taught me. Helps against binge eating. I double up the peanut butter so even a 1/4 cookie makes my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth and that is all I need. :D. I keep them in the freezer since it takes me a long time to eat a batch.

A long way from the comment by Stephen Gaskin " sugar?, It's a good clean fuel, and we like to run on it.!"

TS, that is some smart thinking there.
