Mother of God Pole Barns are Expensive!

These are really nice pole barns and plans in the discussion. Many of the farmers around here construct a tractor shed that is just that, a tractor shed to house their tractors and implements. Most utilize another shop to work on their tractors and implements. The shed has no power but some add it later as an added benefit. The main thing is their tractors and implements like balers, combines, etc...are in the dry. Those sheds can be built fairly inexpensively if you can find used utility poles from the local power company. We have several of those on the farm. Not the prettiest looking but functional.

We build sheds like that with cedar posts.

We used a Mennonite contractor when we put up our 30x40x12 pole barn and it was around $16k for the shell, a 4" floor (ended up being closer to 5" from that the concrete guys said), a man-door and three 12x11 garage doors.
Site work was another 2k or so IIRC (brought in 2'-3 of bank run gravel for fill)

Not doing terrible :)While I could probably get away with a smaller building, I'd rather have more room than I need initially as I already know more stuff will eventually be acquired

Why didn't you come to that conclusion on your first gun safe:D

Soldier,
I have a thread in this forum called "Raising a barn" it shows all the steps I took to build my barn. They really are not that hard to put up. Airbiscuit hit the nail on the head about making sure things are straight and plumb. I used a water level to set the building up. Getting it square was just dumb luck.:)
Here's my favorite picture, taken only about 3 weeks ago.

Looks like you win the prettiest picture award, green grass, snowy mountain tops and nice barn in the middle. But I have to say it's very unusual for me to see that much land without trees, I can't think of a mountain anywhere here that doesn't have trees.

No I don't get out much, it's like when I went to Mo. ten years ago, after I got through Pa. I never seen so much flat land in my life.

The first safe is a 40 long gun safe I bought when I was a broke 25 year old with only 4 guns...

That looks fun, Lynn! I assume those toys rest the summer in your pole barn? :D

Yup, the sled gets the summer off. I do start it every month just to smell the two stroke. :D
