Mother of God Pole Barns are Expensive!

There's some nice snowy scenery pictures, always better with trees, dont think I would like living in area with no forest nearby, now someone has to post some more barn pictures so this thread doesn't get to far off topic and I'll be blamed for it.

Some of these prices for barns at first glance sounds high, but are they really when everything is hired out. I have around 7k in my garage, 26x36 with 14ft walls. Only thing hired out was the cement slab $2,500. I found the best way to save money on building a building is first buy a tractor and sawmill.

Over the years I have built 3 different pole type structures. 4 if you count the woodshed I tore down to build the big barn. Here is a picture of the first ones. The far one is 36X36X12.6 has concrete floor and electricity. The middle one is 36X21X8 has concrete floor with water and electricity. The one up front I tore down and built the big barn. It is 72X57X12 has concrete for the whole perimeter with water and electricity. I can't begin to imagine what that would have cost if I hired it all out. But I paid less than 50K for all three. Did all the work myself other than the concrete. I sure think it's worth doing what you can yourself.:2cents:

I like the looks of the last barn you built the best, that lean-to adds to the looks a lot. You saying you built those barns completely by yourself?

I couldn't do it, I had my son next door help out, plus my tractor also gave a big helping hand, my FEL was maxed out on this 26' long x 12' high wall. First squared it, boarded it from top down til I knew I could reach the rest from ground once up, built on 2' high temp supports.

Then chained it to the bucket, stood it up on 2' high cement wall with stops on back side and with temp bracing ready to go, when I got near vertical, nervousness set in, I knew I was nervous because my leg was shaking and tapping, once it was locked in I calmed right down, did all the walls similar to this>>>

Oldpath let me clarify,
I did not hire anyone other than the concrete guys to do any work on my outbuildings. My wife and 2 sons helped with the building along with a couple of brothers in law. Mostly for the lifting of the trusses and getting them secured to the posts. Building walls like you have would certainly require some help. Like you I used my tractor for everything I could.

I also like the last barn I built the best for the reason you stated. Plus the color is amazing in person. Looks just like an old rusty barn.
Post a couple pictures of your building.

Cat fever, I agree with the color scheme, brown does give it that rustic look, good choice.
I have 3k hired out in 6" cement slab and some gravel, building is 26'x36', 14' high walls, 2k in metal roof, somewhere around 3k in nails, staples, tools, some electric wiring, diesel fuel, tractor oil&filter sawmill parts, gas, chainsaw gas, and coffee, that's about it. (Side note 1)>>I have a Kubota so no tractor parts was required. (Side note 2)> The way it sounds on here, might need 1k for added on lights that will come tomorrow if tomorrow ever gets here.

So if added all up, it is cheaper not hiring out a building build, but some say at my job, we'll you have lot more than 7k in that building, ain't your time and labor worth something? Probably a lot of ways to answer that, I usually say, my time is only worth what my job pays me at work, at home no one's paying me so I guess it's free, but if someone wants to pay $1,000.00 to work on Sat. then all those 3 years of Saturday's working on the building was worth $150,000.99.....WOW, Mother of God Pole Barns are Expensive!

I paid $8,000.00 for a 30x50, no concrete, no leanto, I used MAPB:

Mid-America Pole Barn Co.

Too far for you I think, but there must be somebody near you that will do the same.

They are about $8,600.00 today,

Still a good price. I pick all my lumber up directly from the saw mill. Prices have not changed in 15 years. I'm not sure I could build one for that price.
