New Kubota M6060 or New JD 5065E?

The 'E' series Deere tractors are not exactly their best effort. The Kubota is more the quality of their 'R' series which is going to carry a much more hefty price tag. Most noteably to me, the driveline effiecncy of the Deere is terrible, the Kubota puts more power out the PTO despite being 5 less engine HP. Deere can make some great tractors, the '5E' series is not one of them. You did not note if you took the time to drive each one of these. If you have, the differences become much more obvious.

The video is comparing a MX Kubota vs a 5E Deere. The OP is comparing a M6060 Kubota. Just to point that out.

The MX series Kubota is comparable to a Johndeere 4052m; not a 5E series tractor. For example that MX series doesn't even come standard with a rear remote. The 5E does have rear remotes as standard equipment.

I do actually point that out if you watch the video. The reason the MX is there is because thats what Deere compares the tractor to in their competitive comparisons.

10-4 In all fairness, I didn't watch it word for word. Although I am not the biggest Kubota fan you will meet, or agree with every point are making; you do a great job making those videos. Congrats!!

I would strongly recommend you go up in power. I had a 5055e. I had two of them. Big issues with both. Decided to up my game and get into a 5100e. The 5085/5100e are completely different machines than the smaller 5045-5075. For one, the larger ones are built in Augusta Georgia vs india. The larger ones have a 4 cylinder instead of the 3 in the smaller ones. I ordered mine with the 24/12 trans and h260 loader. It's a beast. If your wanting to mow 70 acres you'll be at it for days with the smaller tractors as they can't run a batwing as easily. I mowed 23 acres for a neighbor with my 5055e cab and mx7. Would take 15 hrs and 50 gallons of fuel. Now with the 5100e and mx15, I can do it in 4-4.5 hrs and 20 gallons of fuel. The little things with the loader differences are nice too. It's cheaper to buy it right the first time vs buying it again.

As for the kubota, I'm a diehard Deere guy but in the 30-50 hp range, I think they have a good package. The mx5200 is a slick tractor with the hydrostatic transmission and ones in that size range. As for the larger ones, I say go sit in them. I really did not like anything about them. The shuttle shift is awkward, the ergonomics are lacking greatly, and just driving them around, they feel very light which the specs show. I don't think I've ever said in a m6060 but did the 75-115 hp ones and my feeling are the same across the board.

I really hope you evaluate your needs and understand the capabilities. It would take me a solid day to mow 70 acres and I'd hope it's smooth and not many trees. If not, your ground limited. With the tractor your looking at, it'll be 2-3 days and a ton of fuel. I've got better things to do with my time.

Another perk to a larger tractor is 14' discs are cheaper than the 8' and smaller. Can cover a lot of ground with that to repair the hog damage

The Kubota M6060 comes standard with a shuttle shift which is comparable to the power reverser of the Deere. You would have to put the same transmission to compare the tractors which or both wet cluthes. Actually looking at specs the Kubota only offers a 8F and 8R and Deere has 12F and a 12R transmission. The Deere have 4 more gears each way. What point were you trying to make?

The comparison chart shows the kubota comes standard with wet clutch and the deere comes standard with dry clutch.

There has to be a cost difference from the standard to the deere wet clutch model you mentioned... So the point was to get a wet clutch on the deere its going to bea option and added cost over what the base kubota comes with standard.
Kubota standard trans shows 8x8 and deere standard 9x3.

Wow so much great info. Thanks everyone!

I do plan on getting a loader for dirt work. I did know that some of the John Deeres are made in India and that is a concern of mine. I did not know the 5085 and 5100e are completely different tractors and wow does the price climb. The 5085e list price is 2x the 5065e. The 5075M has Bad reviews on JD's own site. The R series looks as big as a house with a price to match.

According to : TractorData.com - John Deere tractors sorted by factory
None of them are made in the US. Looks like in 2013 JD started making most all utility tractors in India.

What's the price difference between the 5065 and 5085? Looked at your link, don't know why it's saying it's built in India??? The smaller ones are but the 5085 and 5100 are for sure built here. You get what you pay for. Please please please listen to that. It would've saved me a ton of money

I agree with Brett and if I were in your shoes I would definitely consider a larger machine IF your budget allows. I once owned a Kubota M5040DT ROPS w/ 1153 FEL and it met my needs until I purchased a much larger farm. Basically the same chassis as the M6060 you are considering. The M5040 pros: quality workmanship, adjustment knob that allowed you to vary the raise / lower speed of the 3 PT; cons: light weight, loader valve location was a bit too low to the ground; parking brake operation, small radiator, 8x8 tranny. Do yourself a favor and spend some time operating various models from the brands you are considering and try to be color blind. IMO, there is no perfect tractor and all of them can be problematic. Good luck in your search!
