Read the whole thread. Great job and I hope it's still working for him 5-1/2yrs later.

Looks good. Last week the wife gave me a yard sale umbrella she had and said I could attach it to my tractor. Beats a hat and my favorite expenditure; it was free.

The guy who used to cut grass along the highway around here used to have a canopy made from a road sign. I think about it every so often.

And just think....if you have the unfortunate experiance of 'flopping' over your tractor, at least people will know you are "working"!!:D:D:D

Maybe one that says "if you can read this, turn me over" would be helpfull? :)

Wow time flys!

Just an update, the $8 canopy is still in place. I have never had to adjust or rebuild any part of it. If only all of my DIY projects worked this good.
where did the time go, I reread this post and it feels like yesterday.

I am glad to see so many people found it helpful.

What scrap dealer did you get the sign from? I haven't checked in a while but I think the ones near me no longer sell. They just purchase and recycle.

I'm going to tack on to your thread to give you an appreciation for giving me the impetus to build one for my little guy.

I have little extra money right now and went scrounging around the place. Remembered I had some scrap metal tubing that originally was the runners for the shipping crate of my big laser. Cheap Chinese maybe 26 gauge tubing. Probably was a '58 Chevy bumper. I broke it up, cheap tack welds were easy as the freight line had already done a number on one rail.

Sanded off the rust, use some sanding wheels I'd gotten for my hand grinder. Used my fancy HF wire welder,(the cheapest model) to weld it up. Really junky tubing, even this junk welder kept blowing through on low power. But its holding. Scrounged two braces from an old DirecTV dish mount. (Yep, don't throw anything away guys). Drilled through rops on top and either side. Tapped for 3/8" so only through outside. Drilled through hole for top brace, metal tok thin to tap. Painted.

Added a fancy top. Care to guess what I think is?
Scrap plastic drum. Cut up and screwed down with screws. Didn't buy anything I didn't already have.

Zero cost.

Yeah, drum was a few bucks, maybe $6 in bolts and and a couple of bucks in welding wire and $5 for paint. But I didn't go buy anything for this build.

Pictures below.

That looks great Handloader109,

It has been so long since I built this, I did sell that tractor with the $8 canopy still intact.
If I build nothing else in life, I will always be proud of my little $8 canopy.
