Open carry / firearm handy

I am just curious why you would not want people to be trained before they can carry a gun? I was surprised to find out I did not need to go to a gun safety course before getting a carry permit.

How many drovers coming at you at high speed in their vehicle have had good training?

My State allows carrying without training. I have no problem with that. Most carry classes don't touch on the things that matter anyway. These classes should include many hours of situational training with blank ammo.

If I ask you "can you point your weapon at a human and pull the trigger without hesitation?" And you make excuses or hesitate in your answer you should not carry in public.

Vermont would blow your mind then. Any citizen or legal resident of the US can carry open or concealed without a permit everywhere except schools, courthouses and state buildings.

Carry in bars, carry while drinking, etc.

And safest state in the nation decades running. Go figure...

:D

Really not that hard to figure!

I carry a .38 snubby in my pocket...almost all the time, including tractor time.
Do I need to? No, but I have a fire extinguisher in my tractor too...hope I never have to use either!

I do suggest, for those who want to carry a larger gun, look for a tanker's holster or a hunter's holster that goes across the chest. I have one, but sold the gun I bought it for.

This thread has actually stayed civil. Thanks to everyone for that.

Usually it's the anti-gun folks that scream the loudest. In this thread it's the pro-gun folks. Amusingly interesting. :)

I live in MA, I have to be civil to all those anti's around here. This state is one of the worst in the country, they have an approved list for the hand guns you are allowed to purchase, if it is not on the list (which is very short) you cant buy it.

I think there's a comma or 2 and a dash missing..

For anyone who can not see any good in a gun, or who opposes the ability to carry - until you go through the training and do carry, you may never understand how [your] attention and mindset will change.

And now the Granite state is also "Constitutional Carry", so no reason to stay in the people's republic of Vermont ;)

Live free or die!

I'm not looking for a fight or saying anything one way or the other - but as a Canadian, even the CONCEPT of carrying/needing a handgun while on a tractor is mindboggling. In fact, I actually thought the thread was a joke when I first read it.
I guess our two cultures - even though we share a 2500 mile common border - are miles apart in that regard. But hey, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I guess you aren't kidding. Not only no, but H*LL NO. I HAVE NEVER wanted or needed a firearm, of any type, while operating my tractor.

About a year ago we had some drugstore cowboy walking around our little town with a six-shooter strapped on. Everybody was talking/laughing about this crazy yahoo and his gun. Finally, I guess the sherrif told him to either take it off or get out of town. What a joke.

Holy Cow...
