I had to use jumper cable from battery to starter on my MF last winter, until i got around to changing the battery terminal.

Seriously, for basic vehicle troubleshooting, the cheapest meter sold by Harbor Freight will suffice. I'm talking like $5.00 here. A quality instrument is (of course) better and needed for more precise tasks. A digital meter will be more rugged than an analog meter, so I recommend starting digital. Any meter that will measure within 0.1 volts (i.e., any meter) will handle most troubleshooting work on older tractors (not Tier 4). You probably want both leads with pins (to measure at precise locations) and leads with clips (to free up hands).

As for Digital Multi-Meters Walmart ( auto department ) Has a great DMM for $20. - $30. Innova 3320 red - has every thing you would want in a meter , including buzz and a battery tester I use 1 a week to test AA AAA batteries . A must have !

That same meter is $21 delivered to your door from Amazon if you have Prime.

Webinar may not be "as good" but my experience in training people all over the world is that the discussion is always better than the curriculum, especially when people hesitate to ask questions, and someone else asks it - it really breaks the ice. Real key is cameras for all to attend, and no multitasking.

Showing examples of ohms law in action would be a great way to transfer the knowledge of application.
Let me know if you want to go further on this, there are tons of free tools out there to make it happen.

There for a while those were the same ones on the "Free with purchase" coupons HF mails out. I think between Dad and myself we have about a half dozen of them laying around. Don't mind dragging these out to be banged and knocked (or loaned). Saves wear & tear on my nicer equipment that I leave on the bench. And at that price point, definitely worth the "cost". LOL

yeah, those solve that "hey can I borrow your meter" problems.. Loan them one of those, cause you are never going to see it again anyway...

The problem with meters is that I use so infrequently I have to start over learning each time I use it.

That's me. I did well in my physics class back in high school, but a bunch of stuff has happened since then and I need a ground-up refresher in basic electricity, tailored to household and automotive. I guess a better way to say that is both AC and DC. I need to re-learn all of it, from terminology to how not to fry myself to how to read and use a VOM. I'd pay for that.

My favorite joke about webinars is that I like them because they give me an excuse to check up on my email. I suppose I'd have better discipline if I'm spending money on it. Nothing beats face-to-face, hands-on learning though. I'd prefer to get this education in person.
