We've about had it with broadcast television. $125 a month for satellite TV and 95% is cr@p but we watch it anyway out of inertia. Worse, I'm forced to pay for programming that I detest funding and yet it's part of a forced package that insults anyone's intelligence. Our Internet speed is fast enough that we can go with a few programs on a HULU or something like that and pick up the local news networks on our TV if we want.

The possibilities of available time are endless. More seat time. More barn time. Wax the truck. More exercise and doing things for us that have a net benefit on the outcome of our lives. What's wrong with that?

As Spanner said: nothing at all ...

We dumped satellite a couple of years ago and went OTA ... wish we had done so a lot sooner.

......and went OTA
I dumped cable over a year ago, Like sixdogs said, most of the programming is crap, intermingled with commercials, and funding garbage that I don't want to fund. Unfortunately I'm too far away to use OTA so I'm downloading things to watch and I read a lot.
I tried Amazon Prime for awhile after seeing some documentaries that looked interesting as well as getting free shipping. But I live in Canadastan (Nova Scotia to be exact) and can't watch US based shows because it'll corrupt our system somehow.........Mike

I ended up with Direct TV Now for the $35/mo special price (normal $70) (plus free HBO for a year and $5 Cinemax) for TV, and ATT's Mobley for internet. $60 plus ~$5 tax total for faster, better internet and a pretty good TV package vs the $200 or so I was paying for crappy versions before w/o HBO/Cinemax.

The TV isnt any better, obviously, but I usually just leave it on Star Trek reruns or a News channel while working around the house anyways, so no different than before - just cheaper :)

Perhaps that's why I've taken up sitting under the flowering cherry tree and watching the grass grow.

All summer long its repeats - just about the time you kind of figure out what going on, commercial break, then back to the show and try again to figure it out.

Or its some sleeze-ball gal, saying you took some medicine or crammed something up the nether region and now Dewie-Cheatem & Howe is going to get you millions - - just give them a call.

Summer TV is truly a feast for the mindless.

We ditched our dish several months ago when we got a 5,000 percent increase in Internet speed at the house. Installed an open air antennae to get the local stations for news and weather. Wife had a Netflix account already. So we also picked up a roku stick when we purchased the antennae.

Saving $100 per month. TV doesn't get turned on till 5 pm to catch the local news. Even on weekends, only time the tv is on during the day is if it's raining, or watching the grandkids.

I agree. My favorite channel -- RFD TV -- was dropped by Fios and it left a big hole in my viewing. My package is ridiculously expensive but I can only get Velocity TV -- my other favorite -- with the premium package. I could live without all of it except football. I don't think Hulu et al carries that but if you have any suggestions on how to get football without a traditional cable or dish subscription please let me know.

I've always thought there were three jobs that pay a lot and you can still be terrible at them: TV programming executive [failure upon failure], Burger King advertising executive [when was the last time they had a good commercial], and car company executive [bad decisions are a way of life there].

NFL Game Pass | Live Preseason Games & Game Replays - though you get to watch after the game airs

Live Thursday Night games on amazon: NFL, Amazon Prime announce 'TNF' streaming deal - NFL.com

CBS and some NBC games will be live streamed on Twitter: NFL games are going online, but here's the catch - CBS News

There are also the 'grey area' streaming sites that stream NFL games from other countries like the UK, but you'll have to google those yourself ;)

We haven't had dish, cable tv or rabbit ears hooked to our tv since we moved up here 6 years ago. If the tv's on, it's because we're watching a dvd/blue ray movie. Other than that, it's off.

Don't miss it at all.

We get our news and weather off of the internet.
