It's the unlimited for the very low $20 cost.

Just had Mobley hooked up to 12V trailer breakaway battery that was at a charge of less than 11.9 volts. Left it hooked up and the Mobley stayed on and functional for 50 hours before it turned off. I checked the voltage of the battery, and it was exactly 8.00 V. Now charging breakaway battery and was wondering if a battery tender would run the Mobley on it's own.

Depends. I'[m powering mine with a 1 amp wall wart when I bring it in from the car, so 12w output, tops. Using the term 'Tender' loosely, with such as HFT at <1/2 amp you'd want some idle time (offline), but a 1 amp should give you all I'm getting. Never mind that the 'tricklers' put out pulsating DC, that much battery will filter to virtualloy nil.

That said, any half-decent 12v batt should filter out what 'ripple' a small charger puts out, and just like you're already thinking ;) a retired lawnmower or motorbike battery would do as well. These don't need/use much more energy than our phones do, or they would work for internet w/o being on their charger.

btw, if you read in your phone's instructions it say that using wi-fi will reduce battery usage per charge. Well, on 4G it has to communicate with a tower some blocks or miles away. That uses much more power than connecting to a router in another room. So, my tractor is rated 35 hp, but how often to I use it all?

For me it's the unlimited data at $20/mon at better speeds then my isp that went out of business. Also better and cheaper than the alternative replacement isp.

For me it is not losing signal from the HugesNet satellite when severe storms are approaching.

I have to ask, what is it about this tech that is driving people to it. No pun intended.

Is it the unlimited data at 20 dollars? And if it is the unlimited at 20, do you still have cell phones for voice?

Or is it the mobility? Seems the masses are making it a fixed spot device.

Replaced my dual 10mb ADSL2+ Centurylink service (load balanced for 20mb) that was costing me over $90 and still sucked with lag. It also only gave a combined 1.5mb upload. So, $20 a month for something that gives me ~20%-30% more D/L speed, 1000%-1500% increase in U/L speed, and has much less lag for gaming? I'll take it all day, everyday. :)

Just stopped at local AT&T store, in Columbus to look into the Mobley. Talked to two different reps and got blank stares. 3rd one said "oh yeah" and pointed me to a display with some little devices with video screens?

Guess I'll check Monday when I go into Houston.

Edit: this is what they showed me.

I'm using a battery tender hooked to a small sealed 12V battery with the Mobley also connected to the battery. Eventually I'll get an OBDII connector (using alligator clips for now) and wall wart, but this Mickey Mouse solution is working.

Knock on wood, it has been stable for three days now.

You must live where you have lots of choices. Many of us are lucky to have ANY internet. The very best I can buy here is 1.5 Mbs WiFi at $50/month and there is only ONE provider. Getting 5 Mbs for $20 is a total no-brainer.

That's a ZTE hotspot, sold under the Netgear label. Great little device. I don't think you're going to get that $20 per month unlimited plan with that one, though.

Yep but, point is that the reps, in most phone stores, are phone sellers only and don't have a clue about other technologies. If you take them off of their scripts ....... they're lost.
