So i had to reboot with usb cable removed, wait for network, then plug router in.

I have to do that too, or it never comes back.
EXACTLY... Let the Mobley get connected/established to it's 4G network first without confusing it with a foreign device hanging off it, then plug the router in.

Took one of my Mobley units on a road trip across island today in my Pilot, plugged into the OBD as designed. Deadspots as expected but overall good performance. Used Apple Maps on iPhone with the wifi connection.
Got back home and returned it to its spot in the window hooked to power adapter and GL AR150.

You must live where you have lots of choices. Many of us are lucky to have ANY internet. The very best I can buy here is 1.5 Mbs WiFi at $50/month and there is only ONE provider. Getting 5 Mbs for $20 is a total no-brainer.

No choice except for 4G and Satellite. I use 4G, but still have satellite for TV. I just cannot see the benefit in using the device as a hotspot. Other than the cost, but depending on your cell provider, the cost may be a non-factor within your plan.

Re: Cheap $20 a month Stand Alone Unlimited Rural Internet through AT&T

I have to ask, what is it about this tech that is driving people to it. No pun intended.

Is it the unlimited data at 20 dollars? And if it is the unlimited at 20, do you still have cell phones for voice?

Or is it the mobility? Seems the masses are making it a fixed spot device.

For me, it's multiple things:

Speed. I can pull 30+ Mbps on this device. That's much faster than the 7.5 Mbps that I can get on our WiFi ISP. I have DirecTVNOW, and this device works perfectly for streaming TV.

Portability. We take it with us when we go camping so we have Wifi whenever we want (as long as we have cell access). This means we also have TV whenever we want it.

Backup. I work from home, and if my ISP is down, I'm burning vacation time. My ISP has been down twice and I didn't even know it due to the way I have the Mobley hooked up.

Cost. $20, compared to the $65 for my ISP. It's cheap bandwidth.

We also have cell phones for voice, but since we take the Mobley with us on trips, we save the extra cost to go up to the next data plan for the phones. My wife and daughter share 3GB (work covers my phone), and without the Mobley, we'd likely have to spring another $20 for the 6GB plan.

So, basically, for us, I get all the benefits for little to no cost.

Cost. Speed.

Broadband cost are coming down. Got a Verizon email on FIOS...$80 a month, 950mbps speed. That is fiber and rural America won't see it anytime soon.

Yep but, point is that the reps, in most phone stores, are phone sellers only and don't have a clue about other technologies. If you take them off of their scripts ....... they're lost.

You got that right!

And don't ever make the mistake of thinking they actually know what they are talking about. Price plans, maybe. Technology? Not.

Be sure you got the right connector - MS 156 male. Perhaps not the best, but it does mate properly.

The difference was HUGE for us ,
Comparing it to our Hughes nets $69 a month 5 gig LIMIT (175mb a day) before hard throttle and speeds under 1 meg up or down - to streaming multiple devices at the same time. Still use dish for our regular TV viewing.

$22.01 a month and NO worries about how much data is used, also No hard throttling ... and the phones don't eat their data while in vicinity of the Mobley.

There is absolutely NO comparison between the (service) provided by Hughesnet Sat and ATT 4GLTE in cost or performance.

NONE... ( of course this is jmo) ymmv

This includes the internet working in bad weather and fast ping times that the Mobley provides. And then there are trips in the car- just plug it in and go.

As for the hotspot - yeah the sig could be a bit stronger, but we do use it with all 5 available devices connected at the same time when the kids are here and it does ok, eventually will do upgrade like Sodamo and others and tether a router-It does sound nice to be able to use wi-fi a bit farther away.

Other than the Hassle of getting it setup through ATT -and it really was a hassle... it has been Great

ps. i also bought a small external (9 inch) antenna and the special M 156 connector, It didn't work near as well as the Mobley alone - went from averaging - about 104db to -112 to -115db Oh well at least I can re use the M156 to connect to a larger roof antenna later.
