2017 L3901 TLB price check

I ve been constantly searching dealers used lots and Craigslist for a nice used machine but no luck finding what I wanted and the couple times I did find a nice machine in my price range it was already pending sale. Plus honestly there isn't much savings over buying new esspecially with the insterest rates on a loan for a used machine compared to kubotas 0.17% interest rate that I got. I'm sure I probably could have gotten a slightly better deal had I been willing to drive a few hours to New Hampshire plus I could have saved a few thousand bucks in taxes but this dealer is only 30 minutes away and has treated me well with the previous tractor I bought there.

Yes, finding the right used machine can be difficult. I had better luck in the winter when fewer people were buying, but even then a couple tractors I was interested in sold before I could see them. And I blew one out-of-state deal because I over-estimated the cost of shipping, so I thought the total cost was going to be over my budget.

Looking back over the numbers the actual tractor cost was just under $31,900. Add in almost $2800 for insurance, over $900 in sales tax and almost another $200 in doc fees and yea the price jumps a lot unfortunately.

What's up with the doc fee? Never seen that before.

Also why is the insurance so high?! Is that for 6 years? Normally I thought insurance was around $500 a year through Kubota.

The insurance is for five years. Not sure how it works in other states but here in Maine we have doc fees added to the total price of the tractor. Seems stupid but it is what it is.

So... 17 grand for a backhoe, 2 years newer and HST...

That seems like a lot of cash for a basic tractor.

I'd be looking for something like this:

Kubota 53 Hydrostatic Tractor - farm & garden - by owner - sale

or this

24 Kubota L313 tractor - farm & garden - by owner - sale

and a nice used mini-ex. I've no affiliation with the CL ads, by the way. Just look like nice machines.

If you like the 3901, you'll really like the Grand L.

I've played around with some of the grand L tractors and I agree they are nice. Finding one with low enough hours for what I wanted isn't easy though. Those two tractors are nice but I wanted to stay with new preferably and the L3901 fits my needs pretty well. I wanted to go bigger but then I got into the issue of budget, needing to then buy a bigger trailer, putting my truck near the limits of towing capacity and needing wider implements and had I gone with a bigger tractor a backhoe would not have been affordable. Sucks refinancing a new higher loan amount but ultimately I'll have what fits my needs even if I do still want a bigger tractor.

I don't have the exact number off hand but the insurance was something like $46 a month for the entire loan amount spread over 60 months.

So when I bought my brand new bota last month that 2,000 dollars worth of insurance tacked on to the price shocked the heck out of me. Even with them explaining that it was over the life of the loan etc. I was not going to accept that. I contacted Kubota insurance directly and said that I have never and will never purchase 5 to 7 years worth of insurance up front EVER. They had a plan that I could purchase annually and it was a little cheaper as it would replace 80% loss and not 100% loss of tractor value. Anyway there is another option out there you dealers might not discuss with you.

Dang! That'll be the next thing to get for sure.

Having owned both, I really would consider the mini ex. Even a small one will outdig a tractor hoe by a wide margin.
