Z Turn Mowers

I have badboy Outlaw, kubota and JD lawn tractors..they all seem fine to me..I find not a lot of difference between the commercial ones in the same price range.

Six acres? How about buying a flail (what they told me it was called 40 years ago, spins small blades on chains in vertical circles to cut grass.) for your yanmar? When I used one in the distant past, it gave a nice finish cut at a good speed on your tractor.

I'd try to get a Ferris is2100 for your budget. The Ferris is the best of the ZTRs I've looked at.

I have a Scag Cheetah. Love it. Stepdad bought a Ferris last year. It's a really nice machine. Either one of these would be a great mower to have. Cheetah was 9k in 2013.

What's your terrain? I just sold my '07 Scag Wildcat w/ 61" Velocity deck and 3 bag bagger and went to a Cub Cadet Pro Z 160 AW Steering, with 23.5 Kawasaki engine, AND steering wheel. It's absolutely awesome and cuts stuff in places I'd given up trying to cut with any mower because of the dangers presented by my terrain...
If you have hills and slopes NOTHING will beat this mower for stability, traction, etc., except a PT or That's EXACTLY why I sold the Scag- it was a great ZT, BUT not on hills, slopes, damp or wet grass; it turned gutless and dangerous, breaking away whenever it saw a tree it would go straight at it....
Did a ton of research for my needs - NEVER imagined I'd buy a Cub Cadet; but I will say it blew me away when I drove it on steep inclines I'd NEVER attempt with the Scag on a dry desert day. The build quality is excellent, IMHO, and it's made in America- you know where most of us remember how we used to make things right here in the 'ole USA?!

Two years ago I parked the Scag and bought a Husky 322t AWD rider, and it's a very capable mower, with AWD and Combi mulching deck, max width 46"; which is another reason I went to the Pro Z.
The Pro Z is able to use either lap bars like a conventional ZT, OR a steering wheel, which is what I opted for. I did the lap bars with the Scag, and steering wheel with the Husky, and I like the wheel.
I'm confident this is a very good commercial grade mower in the exact price range you're wanting to spend.
I'm keeping the Husky for my wife to drive; she likes it, and she drove the Pro Z, and likes it too, but won't likely be using it much while I break it in for the next few seasons!

Check out my recent complete review in the Cub Cadet Forum here on TBN.
Let us know what you decide. I would caution AGAINST most ZTs UNLESS your terrain is suited to them. And DON'T buy anything without test driving it on similar or your own terrain FIRST. If I had done that I would NEVER have bought my Scag; it's just not suited to the task at hand...

OP are you interested in speed, noise, how dirty you get? What's the property like? Hills? Landscaping? And how long do you plan on owning the ZTR?

Around here we have excellent dealers that have been in business for a long time carrying Gravely, Ferris, Toro, Deere, X Mark, Bob Cat, and Hustler. Toro has the most market share from the commercial units that I have seen in use followed by Gravely and Ferris. All of them are good if you get a commercial built unit. My son purchased a homeowner Bob Cat unit that has been great thus far. I look at the Bad Boy units every time I go into Tractor Supply. Seem well built and have good specs. Just don't know where you are gonna get service.

Noise and dirt doesn't bother me. Speed is a plus. I don't want to be cutting longer than I have too. Got plenty of other things I could be doing than cutting grass. LOL.
My property is pretty much flat with a little slope.

I cut it now with a 42 '' zero turn at a snail's pace, and it takes all day. I would like to get something that will cut my mowing time down. Maybe ditch the Z turn and get some goats ! LOL

A Zero Turn or one of the front mowers ($$$ those things) would be the way to go for speed...maybe you need a 60" or 72" deck.

And how fast do you tend to mow. When I bought the Scag Cheetah it was supposedly the fastest out there. Maybe, maybe not. That's not why I got it. Just looking at the different mowers available it looked like the sturdiest. Actually made the trip to buy a Gravely which is a good machine but they didn't have any commercial models. We probably mow a little over an acre. The wife mows faster than I do. Probably takes me an hour or little more but I don't get in a hurry.
