What's your terrain? I just sold my '07 Scag Wildcat w/ 61" Velocity deck and 3 bag bagger and went to a Cub Cadet Pro Z 160 AW Steering, with 23.5 Kawasaki engine, AND steering wheel. It's absolutely awesome and cuts stuff in places I'd given up trying to cut with any mower because of the dangers presented by my terrain...
If you have hills and slopes NOTHING will beat this mower for stability, traction, etc., except a PT or That's EXACTLY why I sold the Scag- it was a great ZT, BUT not on hills, slopes, damp or wet grass; it turned gutless and dangerous, breaking away whenever it saw a tree it would go straight at it....
Did a ton of research for my needs - NEVER imagined I'd buy a Cub Cadet; but I will say it blew me away when I drove it on steep inclines I'd NEVER attempt with the Scag on a dry desert day. The build quality is excellent, IMHO, and it's made in America- you know where most of us remember how we used to make things right here in the 'ole USA?!
Two years ago I parked the Scag and bought a Husky 322t AWD rider, and it's a very capable mower, with AWD and Combi mulching deck, max width 46"; which is another reason I went to the Pro Z.
The Pro Z is able to use either lap bars like a conventional ZT, OR a steering wheel, which is what I opted for. I did the lap bars with the Scag, and steering wheel with the Husky, and I like the wheel.
I'm confident this is a very good commercial grade mower in the exact price range you're wanting to spend.
I'm keeping the Husky for my wife to drive; she likes it, and she drove the Pro Z, and likes it too, but won't likely be using it much while I break it in for the next few seasons!

Let us know what you decide. I would caution AGAINST most ZTs UNLESS your terrain is suited to them. And DON'T buy anything without test driving it on similar or your own terrain FIRST. If I had done that I would NEVER have bought my Scag; it's just not suited to the task at hand...
