In 2004 I was building a house from scratch and by the time I need to buy OSB, plywood and good old boards, the hurricane Katrina hit. I think I had to pay over $20 for a piece of OSB because Menards was sending all their stuff to LA. And I used a boatload of them. What was the option, put everything on hold indefinitely. I bit the bullet but whined like a little school girl. It really hurt.

It is going to get worse, count on it. Nobody started rebuilding yet. I am just glad I don't have to build anything right now..

Just came back from Menards today 9/2 and osb went up again a 7 /16 4x8 sheet is 15.65!! 3/4 " plywood 4x8 is less!.

Years ago we used to make temporary trash boxes out of 2 x 4s and 4 sheets of osb. OSB was 9 to $9 a sheet. When it got closer to $20 per sheet, they started disappearing. I have a new home build coming up in a couple of months. It's not going to be pretty. I have already let the customer know he can expect 20% overages in some budget line items due to Harvey.

Well, I have to agree. I actually spent some time talking to the folks at HD when I was curious about it. They openly told me they keep the price up by controlling the supply.

I would not buy that for 15.65 I was looking at the 2x4s

That is so weird. Three-quarter inch plywood is so much better, so why would it be less money?

Is the 3/4" ply rated for interior or exterior use???

There are a couple of issues driving the price, including regional variations and the surge in new home pricing.

This is not meant to be a political comment, but we (US Government) imposed a 20% tariff on all Canadian lumber starting in April. A significant portion of the soft wood used in the US for home construction comes from Canada.

Not to mention just how much plywood and lumber will be diverted to the Houston area RSN...(Real Soon Now)...when you realize how many homes in that disaster area will have to be repaired...
