Kubota MX5200
I'm not 100% sure how to word this question so that it makes sense.....but here goes. I recently purchased a new MX5200 and I really like the performance of the tractor so for. I just rolled over the 100 hour mark. I noticed from day one that shortly after starting the engine.....maybe a minute or two....the sound of the engine would change. The best way to describe it would be a more pronounced "glag, glag, glag" sound. And now just recently I've noticed that it doesn't happen anymore. I haven't noticed any changes in the tractor performance. Could this have anything to do with the turbo charger? Thanks!!

Check the water separator? Mine didn't get any water in it but lots of other crap and the separator itself started rusting (a sign of water) so I change it every 100 or so hours on my MX5800. Any faults show up on the tach? I had some issues where it limited RPMs and shut down intermittently, turned out to be a dirty connection on a sensor, cleaned it and never another issue.

There is a distinct sound change, similar to what you describe, on both my year old MX5800 and new L6060 after the engine warms up. The time it takes depends on the outside temperature. Sometimes, during hot weather, or if the engine is still slightly warm, there is no sound change at all. I'm told this is normal and could be what you are experiencing.

Thanks for the responses. I checked the water seperator and it was fine. It could very well be that the weather is getting cooler and whatever happens to change the engine sound is just taking longer and therefore I'm not noticing it.

You gentlemen had any issues with the lift capacity? I love the Kubota and I've been shopping for a while, but the weight and lift capacity keeps holding me back. Sorry to hijack an operation thread, but you both have tractors I've given serious consideration in the MXs

I am very happy with the lifting capacity of my MX5200. Rear tires are loaded and I haven't had any problems. I also have a Land Pride grapple and all I know is that I can pick up very large logs with ease. It's also a very comfortable tractor that I can spend hours on without any trouble. Hope this is helpful

In the past, I've found the lift capacity on my earlier B and L series Kubotas to be a bit lacking but not so on my current L6060 and MX5800. The LA1055 and LA1065 FELs on these machines will lift well over a ton using the standard square back bucket. In most cases, these FELs will lift more sand, gravel, soil, etc. than the bucket will hold. For machines in this size / weight class, carrying heavier loads would increase the rollover hazard substantially. Increasing the size, weight and lift capacity would also defeat the purpose of the compact tractor concept. On the uneven ground I maintain, I wouldn't want to risk carrying much more than the MX is designed to handle.

I'm not sure what you are looking to carry but if compact size isn't a factor, you might look at the full size M or TLB series Kubotas.

I have the same tractor as you MX5200. I also noticed a slight engine tone change after warm up but figured it was normal.

Do you notice an odor change just before the regen kicks in? I can tell when I'm close to a regen by the exhaust smell. Carries smell about halfway through regen period.

What third function valve did you get for your grapple?

I have the older MX5100 and the lift capacity is very good. I can easily lift the loaded rear wheels if I don't have something heavy on the back.
As for a sounds change - there is a little change in the note of the engine once it gets up to temp.
