I purposely overfill my trucks because they leak/burn oil. If you injectors weren't trashed why would you replace them?

For years I was under the impression that overfilling an engine will cause seals to blow out, or maybe that was transmissions. Anyway I took my Duramax truck to get injectors and pump replaced because over 5000 miles it they added an extra 12 quarts to 9 quart system. I gut them replaced but no one seemed concerned about running way over full for that length of time.

The point I suppose is, if I can run waaaay overfull, not on purpose obviously, why not just dump the 5 quarts in a 4.5 quart engine and don't get concerned about a little extra.

They put 21 quarts in a 9-quart capacity engine? I'd expect to see it coming out the fill spout by then!

No engineers here?
Pretty obviously, the capacity is mostly dictated by the physical constraints. The quarts is a cad volume conversion...

I have dozens of bottles of various fluids/oils/types/cleaners/sprays/etc. I can't imagine having so little that I'm concerned about 1/2 of 1qt. and "storing it for 10 years".
I guess I need to use the whole can of starting fluid too, once I buy it.....

Put in a Fumoto valve and watch the chaos then!

I had to read the post twice. I think DD is saying that because the injectors leaked he ended up with 21 quarts of fluid in the engine, sounds like mostly diesel.

I think he would have worse problems if that was what happened. Diesel isn't very good for lubricant.

Judging by the quantity of oils and other lubs etc that the local recycle depot collects I guess many folks try DIY oil changes at least once.

A buddy has access to recycle depot items and it is mind boggling as to what folks trash.
I guess he gets probably 15 compressors, 12 battery chargers and a pile of power tools every 5-6 months.
One day he had 4 wheelbarrows (all easy repairs).
Most power tools have a simple fault like pull cord, frayed line cord and even a blown fuse or popped breaker.
Face it, 'disposable society'.

Face it, 'disposable society'.

Agree, it has become very much so. People often don't know how to fix simple things or just want something newer. They part with their money so easily and have very little saved. A shame.

I have a friend that used to live in an apartment right by one of the bin enclosures, I was always 'rescuing' easily fixable things that were too good to pass up. We also have a Repair Fair a few time a year, put on by the county, where people can bring in things for us volunteers to try and fix.

Where I recycle there are signs up that say "no scavenging". I figure it is so the workers get the good stuff :D
