You guys are making me happy that we went with GE "Profile" mid-line stuff. In about 5 years now it has been very serviceable and reliable. No complaints. But then we are also still happily using our 10+ year old Whirlpool "Duet" front load washer/dryer. Musta been 10,000 loads through those things with only a new set of dryer drum rollers. Not even any moldy smells around the door gasket.

Well guess what-GE sold the appliance line and name to a Chinese outfit. Our dryer (Kenmore) WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. After screwing around trying to diagnose I called Sears service. Minimal service call charge was like 120 bucks to drive out and a minimum parts charge of over a hundred bucks. So I said-hmnn-almost half price of a new one. so given it was close to 20 years old, wife goes to Sears- I had found a nice Kenmore for500+ bucks butshe buys a GE. Piece of crap IMO. cheesy door-the lint trap hardly picks up any lint. Doubt this POS will be around 20 years from now.

I did not know that. What is this world coming to when General Electric's appliance business is making decent money and they can't keep it in the US? Googling it, the justice dept blocked a sale to a Swedish company but allows the sale to a Chinese company? Isn't there a saying like "Baseball, Apple Pie and GE" ?

I think they kept the manufacturing operation in Kentucky(?)-but for how long. Another American Icon gone!

IMG_8828.JPGwhen we renovated our last house we went full on jenn aire, their "professional" line. I think it was around $8k for everything.

When we built the new house we just picked what we liked. Kitchen aid ovens and fridge. Viking dishwasher. GE induction cooktop. And we brought our jenn air convection oven/microwave with us. It's a hodgepodge but we got exactly what we wanted, no longer cared about the "suite".

Those are the same KitchenAid ovens I have. So far so good. A bit noisy but I like them a lot overall.

We've had our fair share of adventures with high end appliance models (Bosch dishwasher nightmare). The short warranties, lack of long term support, the poor customer service, lack of authorized service locations, and high service call fees: It all reinforces that we now live in a throw-away society.

Yes, my Bosch dishwasher didn't last 1 year and wouldn't clean anything properly. We put it out on the porch and eventually took it to the tip. It still looked like new.
We are onto our 4th microwave in about 3 years. No, we don't bother fixing them if they are crap. Fancy name brands too some of them. We are now running a new LG one and it just works. Faster and quieter than any of the others. We now run a LG dishwasher and LG washing machine and I won't even look at other brands now. Now we take the 6 year full replacement warranties for around $40

OOPS sorry Red Horse... got off track there....

Does your Viking DW stink too?
