Turbo bearings run on an oil film, there is no metal to metal contact like piston rings do.
And last turbo i had measured was an undersized HX30 mounted on a 6BTA to solve turbo lag issues. It oversped on acceleration to 45.000rpm, shortly before stabilising on its design speed of 30.000rpm when the engine was up to speed. Turbine threw blades within 1500hrs
