PTO gear box

I need access to the differential gears. I have all bolts and hydraulic lines removed from the top cover. It is only sealed to the gearbox by sealant. I have tried very carefully to hit the top cover with a board and hammer to break it loose. Any suggestions? I am working outside with no power.

I'm sure your lift arms are disconnected. Sometimes it will comes loose by sharply lifting the arms in the full up position. If you are carful, you can drive a thin gasket scraper between the two housings to get separation started, then a pry bar.

Raising the arms and jerking up on them broke it loose. Thanks, I did not want to mess up the castings. Now to find out how to get the shafts out. Need to replace 2 gears.

Yes it is. I've got one of those seals in the housing that is very insistent on staying put. I didn't want to destroy the seal,but looks like i might have to.

You are probably going to have to split it at the trans to get where you are going. Good luck!

No, I got the shaft and gears out O.K. without breaking it open. Thanks for your reply. It's nice to know that there is assistance out there if one needs it.

Yes, it is on the LS 3010. Just waiting for parts now.
