Dogs in Lowes Store

Looks like there are opinions on both sides on this one. I'm glad to see it. I thought maybe I was the only one that found it strange. Around our house we treat our dogs like dogs and our kid like a kid. The German Shepherd has killed at least 5 moles, 2 opossum, and a groundhog this year. The dogs also keep the coyotes away. They are outside 24/7 doing their "job".

No offense to others who treat their dog like a child by the way. I get it, my ex is that way. To each their own, but I still vote no to dogs in stores for the most part.

A few years ago I saw a very angry father slam a small dog against an I-beam at a gas station. He had it by the hind legs and hit it three or four times and broke it's back. The dog had bit a child after the child reached down to pick up something the dog was eating. The owner and dad argued with the owner blaming the small child for not knowing better. The father grabbed the leash and pulled the dog to him kicking it several times before grabbing it's legs and slamming it. Personally I would have killed the dog then knocked it's owner's teeth down his throat for being stupid enough to have a biting animal at a public place.

As I understand Kentucky law, and correct me if I am wrong, the LEAST that owner would have to pay in a law suit would be $70,000 if there were the smallest scar on a male child's leg. A female child would have cost them $120,000. A scar or wound on an arm or, heaven help, on the face would warrant a higher total. And the owner could have been jailed for assault because the biting dog was on a leash.

I have had dogs all my life, though none now, but I realize that they are not children. They are animals and as such even the most even tempered can be unpredictable. Somebody taking one into a public area SHOULD lose their home and income if that animal injures a child.

I find in most cases it's not the dog that's the issue it's the attitude of the owner.
When I take my dog places if she made a mess somehow, whether she relived herself on the floor or if she knocked something over it's my responsibility to clean it up. Some other people just leave it for the next guy.

The other side of that is, teach your children how to behave around animals.

Lawsuits don't repair a destroyed eye, and 40 years of blindness later, the now-grown-up kid probably won't be thinking about the stupid dog owner, he'll be wishing his parents had taught him better, and I can guarantee he won't be thinking that his eye was a good trade for the money he got.

I don't mind dogs at Lowes. It's a big store and there's room for hem.

But at the Lowes near me, there are often 4 or 5 people in the store, with their dog trainer, socializing their dogs. I think it's a group class.

I think that's crossing the line.

When I saw her, she,her husband,a drunk and the store manager were in a fist fight. Seem's the drunk customer told her"that's the ugliest baby I ever saw". The lady burst into tears and screamed"I'm getting my husband from the parking lot to come whip you." The manager overhead them and said"go get your husband maam,I'll watch your goat while you are gone".

Now THAT's entertainment!

Nice. Any Kentucky laws against aggravated assault?

So let’s get this straight, some fellow Kentuckian was feeding his dog on a leash at a gas station. A child tried to take the food because he wasn’t getting fed at home by his parents. When bitten, aforementioned parent grabbed the leash from the owner, kicked the dog numerous times and then beat the dog against an I-beam until he killed it. After witnessing this YOU would have would have additionally knocked the dogs owner’s teeth down his throat?! This is very disturbing.....

Very true. People reach out and try to touch my dog all the time. She wouldn't hurt anyone but it is still wrong to do that. People shouldn't reach out to touch a dog they don't know any more than they should reach out and touch some kid they don't know. Humans are the problems in most cases and when it comes to behaviors today's kids are terrible.

And I too have cow poo on my pants from time to time when I am in HD or Lowes. Maybe some dirt under my fingernails and probably a coffee stain or two on my shirt. It isn't church.

I'm a dog person and I enjoy seeing them in the store. I've never seen any problem with them, and they always make me smile. Saying that, I would never bring mine into a store, or even take them into town. They stay in the yard, unless they are going to the vet or the two that compete, are going to a dog show.
