Either way, he either gets back onto the force with his appeal or he ends up with another department somewhere else.

What I found so ironic in that whole mess was the fact that the truck driver hit by the fleeing vehicle was actually a reserve police officer himself in Idaho.

The vast majority of officers out there are good, caring, honest people most of the time. They don't go out there looking to violate anyone's constitutional rights or break any laws or offend citizens. Yes of course there are a few bad apples, it's going to happen at some point, and for the most part it will catch up to them in the end.

FIFY.

Just Google "The personality of the American police", and you'll find some very interesting discussion of this topic. The consensus seems to be that recruits are screened properly, but whatever "Police Personality" develops, develops mostly as a result of their experiences on the job. (I wrote a paper on this waaay back in 1977, and that is pretty much what I found as well from my review of the various studies back then.)

I believe a key difference from 1977 to today is the reality that many police departments today have taken a "militarization" approach to law enforcement, with both equipment and prior service going in LE.

That said, this is not true of every agency, as even in my town, the local cops can be found at the local gas station just "talking with people" in general, and believe it or not, even I talk with "nice" cops about things in general:D

Where in this thread did you come to that conclusion and who said it?
Nowhere.... I'm just grouping all of you together in an over generalized way, similar to what you're doing towards Police. What? It's not fair or appropriate?

Hmm

Hmm

Did you read where I actually socialize with LEO's?

My point, which apparently you missed, is you are far better off being cautious than assuming that any LEO has the best intentions for you when you're dealing with them on their "professional level" because YOU are a person of interest to them.

Do I think that the majority of LEO's have good intentions? Probably so. That said, I have no clue who I'm dealing with so I will be protective of my rights as a citizen of this country which we are afforded. You on the otherhand, apparently view that philospophy as being paranoid.

Like I said before, you notice when that nurse in Utah was being arrested and yet NO ONE in uniform standing around the situation stepped in just to inform the arresting officer that perhaps he may be overstepping his bounds? The fact is if good officers say or do nothing when they see inappropriate actions taken by their co-workers, at least to myself, it makes them just as accountable for their lack of actions.

It's ok.... I'm not going to convince you to stop being paranoid, and "anti-authority" ... And you're not going to convince me to assume that Public Safety Officers are out there to violate my "rights as a citizen of this country" and distrust them.

You won't convince me to stop supporting Public Safety, and i won't be able to talk out of your bunker compound.

Meanwhile, the cops will go about their business, arresting violators so the rest of us can enjoy the rights this country affords us both... And we can agree to disagree.

Yep, you won't talk me out of sending money to my local LEO and my trips to the local LEO office and sheriff's department with cub/boy scouts as well as having a hoot with shooting with some buddies who happen to wear a badge:laughing:

My bunker is pretty nice, with lots of sun. But yes, I do have a bunker as I've been tought that the first line of defense starts with YOU. That said, if you think all men in "public uniform" are there soley for your own protection, well, best wishes to you:thumbsup:
