If you go back and read my earlier post, you'll see i already condemned those officers who violate the rules and damage public trust and perception. They should (and eventually usually do...) face severe consequences for their actions.Yup... You are right, because I haven't done the job, I can't understand why it's ok for police officers to violate the law, lie to the public, and ignore other officers doing the same.
I don't understand the public thinking an officer might be wrong if he only does bad things 10 min out of each week. After all, he didn't do anything wrong the other 6 days of the week.
But "bad" officers are in the extreme minority, and the vast majority of officers are honest, caring, hard-working people who do their best to honor their position, while working within the sets of laws that we've laid out for them. Are there bad officers out there? Yup... They are few, but they are present. They should be reported when encountered. But don't group the rest, the "good" officers in with the random, limited, bad apples. It's not fair to the rest.
That's why we should trust and give our support to Public Safety officers. You're much more likely to have contact with the good ones.
