Still have several craftsman wrenches. Probably 3 of each size from 1/4 up to 1-1/4 and same for metric from 6mm to 24mm.

Still have alot of sockets too.

the problem I have always had is with their ratchets. Over the last 20 years....their ratches are just really sloppy, and easy to break. I just quit taking them back because they just get worse and worse. Havent broken a single HF ratchet yet. And a lot tighter gear mechanism. Especially on their composite handled ratchets. Compare a HF composite body 1/4" ratchet to a craftsman one. Unless you have about a 90 degree throw....you aint moving nothing with the craftsman with how sloppy its head is.

Got alot of HF sockets and wrenches now too. I'd trust them every bit as much as any craftsman.

But adjustable wrenches and pliers....HF leaves alot to be desired.

Last time I exchanged a ratchet they wanted to give me someone else's beat up old Rachet that they had put a kit in. I would just try to get a kit out of them.

Same here, looked like it had been used as a hammer and chrome was pealing. I asked for a NEW one and they refused. Mine was in better shape externally. I should have waited until they had a better selection of USED/repaired ratchets, but it was a 35 mile trip I don't often make.

aaaaaaaw, who said I "bent the handle"? Does the broken breaker bar handle look bent to you??

AND then there's the fact that the 1/2" drive S&K breaker did the job, no problem at all...

SR

Yes the bottom breaker bar in your pic has a bent handle.

I have broken some tools in my past but I don't think I would sacrifice a second tool of the same brand and type after I broke the first one. My favorite cheater bar is the steel handle off a Walker floor jack. I have an old Husky 1/2" breaker bar I had to weld the pin in that had that jack handle on it more times than I can remember and it still works great. My latest 1/2" pull handle purchase was a 24" HF that has the look and finish of a Snap On. I've had the jack handle on it too. ;)

I haven't purchased many tools from Sears in recent years and the ones I have were lesser quality than the ones I was replacing.

Reminds me of a story I like to tell on myself. When I was a young feller I was working on something in front of my shop and needed to bend a folding steel lock tab down off a nut. The Snap On tool guy walked up just as I was hammering the tab down using a Snap On screwdriver and ratchet. He exclaimed "THAT IS NOT A CHISEL AND THAT IS NOT A HAMMER". I looked up with a big ol grin and said "I know, but they are guaranteed for LIFE".

NO the handle was NOT bent, it may be the way I had to piece the picts together that it looks off to you, but the handle was not bent...

NOW, my S&K has a MUCH thinner handle and it "flexed" like crazy, but it was "flex" not bent, and it did the job.

Does THAT tell you anything about tool quality between the two brands??

The bottom one certainly looks bent to me. But I digress. Never heard you answer how you broke the palm ratchet??

Used to use a 3/4" inch breaker bar with a 2" socket and a 24" cheater to tighten the hub nuts on my 8n, they required, if I recall correctly, 600 ft/lbs to torque properly. Definitely couldn't do that to my 1/2" BB!

600? is that right, that sounds like a lot to me.........

Sounds more like the axle nut.

Breaker bar seem to bend or break just when need. This items is pricey but works great where one needs a breaker bar. A word of caution though, stay away from those CHROME PLATED impact sockets when using one of these. (There are no chrome plated impact sockets - the chrome plated sockets are made for a regular ratchet.)

Those Snap On ratchets are not any better at pounding on things than any cheap ratchet you can buy at HF. I don’t see the point in spending the extra money :D
