55 degrees, high of the day, going to be the same tomorrow.
Got the newly filled in area next to the driveway seeded this afternoon, raked it in, then ran over it with the golf cart a bunch of times.
Then blew leaves for an hour, nice to be outside. Found a half dozen wrinkled figs in the nut orchard, all the leaves have fallen and surprised birds haven't eaten the figs.
I would think a fig would be yummy to a bird. Fig trees are all settled in for winter and even have their Spring buds ready. This is why i have to prune the orchards in early January as some things start growing again in February. Late february all the potatoes I ordered are due in and will try to have them planted by March 1. Going to try to get two potato crops this year, early Spring and then Fall.

Seed potatoes apparently come in 50 pound bags. I was quoted approximately 18 dollars a bag, and each bag is good for 2-3 acres. The latter stat amazed me, even with my getting three or four eyes per potato. I'm going to do about an acre of potatoes, two reds and one white. Likely I'll plant half no matter what and just use my neighbor's farm land. He's been offering more of it to me so maybe. He has a spot downtown he used to sell vegetables. Whatever I grow on his land he can keep or sell, but what's left is going to the food bank.
I have grown for food banks before and it is enormously satisfying growing food for the poor and hungry.

Anyone have an idea how many pounds of potatoes you get out of an acre? Just going to use an old potato plow I have to harvest, at least the first year.
Lot of bending over, wonder who I can get to do that part...

I致e gone further for less! LOL

A new subtopic!
How far did you go for just what? (Some small reason for the whole trip, not killing 2 birds with one stone...)
2 AM on 6th street (party zone) in Austin, my buddy left and drove home (a one hour's drive) with our keys. He just got home and had to make another round trip to bring us the keys. He had to drive 3 hours in the middle of the night....A night I would like to forget...although we all made it home safe and sound.

Drew, I suspect your neighbor had less strength to deal with the loss of his wife than maybe you or I hopefully have, it痴 great you don稚 judge him.

thanks, I appear to be the only one who doesn't, but the place is such an eyesore, here's a guy who can be lucid one moment, then throwing his dirty paper plates and trash out on the lawn and for sure all over the floor of his trailer. The door was open today and I looked in...oh my.
He has asked me if i want to go out to dinner with him, says he'll get cleaned up.
Geez. Maybe I invite him over to dinner first and see how that goes. I'm pretty sure he is crawling with fleas.

And now I'm told because he didn't fertilize his collards, his "slinger" was of course broken, that they aren't big enough to harvest for Christmas, when he was going to make his big financial killing. All that work and I bet this stuff rots out there...His idea is just let it grow and fertilize it in the Spring. ??
It's all pretty dysfunctional.

I would be even more sympathetic if his issues were recent, but they aren't. His place has been a mess since anyone can remember.
Once he lost his good jobs twenty years ago due to alcohol, and permanently lost his driver's license, he's been on a steady spiral since.

I can only imagine what Farmer's chicken operation would be like if he consumed half a gallon of hooch a day.
I bet those chickens would be free ranging with the best of them. ;)

Kyle, I’m driving about 5 hours round trip, from Ranch to Rocco’s in Austin for a Christmas luncheon with a bunch of my trail riding buddies from Austin area, next Wednesday.

Then a 3 hour round trip to Houston, same day, for a Christmas Happy Hour / Dinner with some other trail riding buddies from Houston area.
