Nope. Remember that the long strap has hook on one end and other end just gets threaded thru the ratchet drum.
Yes, but hooks are stitched on both ends. One is on the long end as you mention. There is also the ratchet piece that has a short strap with one end stitched to the ratchet handle and the other to a hook. So to replace the strap portion, I need someone that does this before, knows what they are doing and has the ability to stitch double thicknesses of heavy strapping. Apparently, no on does this so I may have to just toss my metal ratchet ends and buy new straps.
As mentioned, the metal ratchet handle ends I have now are super heavy duty and I've had them for years. They have never been in the weather and are perfect. They would hold the Queen Mary in place and must have been used for some Herculean task. As well, the hook ends are longer and heavier than normal. The strap was so tough it's lasted for 25 years of intermittent use and I'd hate to give up without a fight.
