More Than 40 Million Kidde Fire Extinguishers made over last 40 years Recalled

I received FedEx notice of another pending delivery this evening so I should be getting a second one soon.

Did you receive the same size as your old ones or the smaller size like I got?

The first three were exact replacements for the three claimed. The next two replicated the two smaller ones.

Just sent my return one back today... (was a bit slow at doing it.)

Got 2 replacements extinguishers yesterday, and they are twice the size than the 2 that was on the recall, good deal. Now they want me to wrap and pack the 2 old ones back in the box and return to sender, I wouldn't of know that but I just happen to read their note and it said they want me to return them.

I was going to use one for target practice just to see how big of a firearm I need to relieve my pressure, wonder why they want them back? Thanks to the OP for this thread...............

I got the rest of mine today. One was entered by mistake so I was intending to send one of the new ones back. The two that arrived today matched the two large ones I submitted so I returned the short one they sent earlier along with the two recalled units. I also had one of the small 2-1/2 lb push button types and they replaced that with a stubby 3 lb. I will have to call or drop off the last three returns.

This is a guess but pretty sure they are re-using the tanks and putting on a new trigger system on the tanks. Basically, they are getting a raw material tank back to re-use!!!

The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.

Their use subjects them to liabilities and lawsuits so they want them returned so no one can use them.

You're probably right, fire extinguishers are one of those things that if dont work in time of need could cause a life threatening situation or severe building lost which I personally would be very upset.

Imagine trying to put out a fire in a shop that could've been easily put out with a extinguisher and the handle brakes making it unusable, then what risk getting burnt or get burnt trying to put the fire out, hard to give up 25 years of tools and what not and some tools are irreplaceable.

I could see that on the bigger fire extinguishers but on the small ones that I had, dont think they're worth rebuilding.
