More Than 40 Million Kidde Fire Extinguishers made over last 40 years Recalled

Just got my replacement, they must have been slammed as it's just over two months. I'd pretty much written it off.

This is a guess but pretty sure they are re-using the tanks and putting on a new trigger system on the tanks. Basically, they are getting a raw material tank back to re-use!!!

I could see that on the bigger fire extinguishers but on the small ones that I had, dont think they're worth rebuilding.

Each fire extinguisher is made in a die that molds the year of manufacture into the bottom of the tank. I doubt they are rebuilding them but rather melting the aluminum and forming new tanks. By doing that kidde is saving money on raw material and keeping 40 million tanks out of land fills.
Kidde is replacing 2 extinguishers for me. Yesterday they said both are back ordered and would take a month to send. I've had one since 01 so I'm in no hurry.

I need to relieve my pressure, wonder why they want them back? Thanks to the OP for this thread...............

Probably because somebody would still use them and count on them as their primary ext. at a cabin or boat. I could envision a lawsuit when they wouldn't work even though they got a replacement for them.

I submitted requests through their website for replacement of four different extinguishers (including one for kitchen and one for boat). We got one new extinguisher yesterday from FedEx, with return label to send the old one back. Thing is, they didn't say which old one it replaced -- if that matters -- so I had to take a guess as to which one to put in the return box.

I put in my request a couple months ago. I received 2 extinguishers a month ago, and boxed the replacements up but not sent them back yet. I am still waiting on the two others. When/if I get the other two extinguishers I will box them up and send them all back at once. I guess they are overwhelmed and then we had the holidays.

I thought I was about to get 4 new units, these model numbers checked out but then I noticed this pic on the page. Pictured are the 4 units I have.

I guess I can still use 2 of these for target practice!

I had two with that configuration along with two others that I reported and they sent me 4 new ones.

I put a claim in back in late Nov 2017 for two affected extinguishers when I saw this thread. Now Jan 31 and still haven't received replacements. Anyone else still not received replacements for what they claimed? I don't see anyway obvious to check the status on a claim on their site.

I had a total of 4 recalled. The first two arrived about 2 weeks after the recall. The 3rd one came about a week after that. The 4th one finally arrived about two weeks ago.
