Good morning!!!!

45°F and cloudy with some drizzle this morning, going up to 55° today. Looks like mid- to upper-50s all week here, until the bottom falls out on Saturday and we get back to December weather.

Took a vacation day at work Friday. Have a few left I need to use before the end of the year, so I'm taking every Friday for the rest of the month. This past Friday was The Wife's birthday, which was what inspired the day off to begin with. It was the "big, black, dreaded birthday" for her (also known as the 21st anniversary of her 29th ). Her oldest son is in town from Texas now for the holidays, and joined us for dinner at a nice place called Hop House in O'Fallon, IL. Excellent food, good staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. She enjoyed her day.

I spent most of the remainder of the weekend sorting my "stuff" from storage. I closed the garage door and turned on a forced-air space heater, and it was really quite pleasant in there yesterday in spite of the chilly temps outside. Some of it was stuff I have been hauling around with me since I got married the first time in 1986 ... still in the same boxes, and clearly not needed. Most of it is on it's way to a local landfill today, as I just about topped off the last dumpster. Good to finally get rid of that stuff.

Speaking of the garage door, I neglected to mention that we had it replaced a couple weeks ago. The old one had been giving us major trouble since last year when the boy unhooked it from the opener to sneak out one night. It seemed to be misaligning itself and binding up every few months. The door itself was damaged, and the tracks were both in bad shape as well. The new one is quite stout, and insulated as well. Now, I'm actually looking forward to building the new shop along the walls out there once we get it cleaned out again. Might actually be comfortable out there even in the winter with a small heater.

Checked the tractor Saturday to ensure all is well. It's been awhile since it's had any exercise, and I wanted to be sure it's ready for snow duty. Took it for a little spin around the pasture to check the fence line. The rear blade is on, the tank is full, and it's just waiting on the first snow.

Got 1st coat of paint on lumber, fingers crossed I can get 2nd coat on this morning. Still find it a bit shocking that the 5 gal bucket of Behr Ext with Primer is nearly $200.really makes me appreciate my discount.

We used Behr Marquee to paint the entire interior of our house after the remodeling, David. It's good stuff, but definitely not cheap. When I asked The Wife how much we spent on paint, her answer was, "You don't want to know."

No complaints about Behr, we have used it extensively both in and out. Just don’t remember that last one being that expensive.

39F and cloudy @ 13:00 ... things are melting here, not fast enough however for my tastes ...

Got the three 4' panels put together up in the shop for the back on the metal shelves on Saturday ... it was a complete PITA. I used those plastic joiner strips for FRP ... and they were a little too narrow to take the hardboard panels I got. Ultimately what I had to do was jam sheet metal down into the gap, to spread the opening that the panels go into. It took several hours ... between that and walking inside The Depot I was pretty well whipped.

Also might have had a fume problem from the WBS and mebbe CO played a role as well. Anyways, I more or less took yesterday off from any activity up there.

Heading back up in a bit and will try to see if I can't get something accomplished. Definitely need to get some wood moved in before we get another snow.

Found the lay z boy issue, piece wearing, and im not a metal worker, but might file it some, might help.

If actual LazyBoy brand, many have lifetime warranty on hardware. My wife went to Lazyboy repair place and he gave her the parts, I put them. Saved having to take chair in..

Don't have much good to say about Behr paint, despite the high Consumer Reports ratings. Used it on the exterior of the house about six years ago. It's flaking off the east facing eves in several places, and the hairline cracks in the stucco like surface of the walls have popped right back through the Behr masonry paint. Both were supposed to be primerless. Toward he end of the job, Behr changed formulations on the masonry paint, and I had a heck of a time getting the new paint to match. They ended up sending me home with white tint so I could match it myself. Next time around I think it'll be Benjamin Moore going on there.

My wife received this today, along with a letter saying that at least two people have had their sight restored thanks to her donations, plus her bone, tendon and skin donated will help as many as 100 people in the future. Her life goal was helping people, she continues to do so.

My Wife had to renew her driver's license this year, and for the first time, she signed the donor card. She was still a bit apprehensive about it, but decided to do it anyway. I've been signed up since I was 16 years old.
