Poured first cup of coffee. -0° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 12° with a few clouds. Made it to midnight after falling asleep for a couple of hours and awaking. But missed all the actual event because I was watching a movie. No plans for today. Call a few friends and family to wish them a Happy New Year.
Riptides, Wife just went through a course of PT. While the people are good they all seem to forget that my wife has other conditions besides the ALS that they are there for. I waste no time telling them what they may not be aware of. Even though it is on the paperwork. Prayers for your wife and you.

Just got my 3rd cup of coffee. NWS says it's 15 degrees going for a high of 27 today, with a northerly breeze around 15 mph, gusting to 20 mph. I may just do a lot of TV watching today.:laughing: My wife thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.

You are going to have to test the teen theory by yourself Bird, it's only suppose to get in the low twenties here.
Keep and eye on your thermostat if is says emergency heat or auxiliary heat then your heat strip has been activated and you are not quite as energy efficient as the heat pump alone.

Yep, Don, as expected the heat strip just activated a few minutes ago. Gonna start the year with a big electric bill. But I'll pay it to stay comfortable.:laughing:

Happy New Year, all!

I didn't make it to midnight, but I hardly ever do anymore.

-30 and a high of -11 Wind S 6 mph. An 'extreme cold warning' in effect. I wonder when that will happen? Temps of 30-40 below are normal for this part of the country (Northern Ontario) at this time (winter) of the year. It would be abnormal if they happened in July/August.

Back in my drinking days, new years day was a good excuse to go get drunk all over again at the 'Presidents' levy held at the local RCL (Royal Canadian Legion) [much like the VFW in the 'States].
Although I know where the Legion is in this town, in the almost 24 years I have lived here, I have never been inside the doors. I can, and do support them, but I will not frequent them.

Anyway, everybody try to keep warm and dry (if that is your thing).

Was out feeding birds when we reached our low of 2...wearing a neck gator over my face...had big frosty eyebrows when I came in. Sun's up now, and the bearded frost on the field grass (like Eric's photo) is looking like a thousand mirrors...sparkling as it reflects the sun. It's gonna be a good year!

6° now, just woke up after a little shuteye in the layzboy.
Wife and boys will come home today, they are at her parents near Harrisonburg va. He has a BX23, but doesnt do tbn. He does track the weather, has had commercial chart style weather machine for years.

Oh yea, breaker to my upstairs geo heat strip still turned off. No use running it, im not up there. I noticed it wasnt quite keeping up to temp last night. Never connected power to downstairs geo heat strip, its a larger unit and keeps up fine.

Morning, all, and Happy New Year. Cold this morning. (For us, anyway). Horse stall clean and dogs walked. Coffee is warming me up.

Missed the new year at midnight, but up every few hours feeding the stove for heat.

It was 22* when I got up this morning, yesterday's high was I the mid 40's. They are saying today is going to be about the same just more wind.

Had a nice dinner and fireworks with some neighbors last night. I heard some tall tales that made for enjoyable evening. Still didn't make it to midnight.

No plans for today.

Was barely able to stay up til midnight. We cooked steaks, and wifey made an onion, mushroom and spinach medley, along with some roasted new potatoes.

Just talked to a buddy at church and they've been dealing with the flu. He was mostly over it, but his wife was still suffering. They did not get tamiflu.


The news scroll said that 3 people have died in Travis county so far due to the flu.
