Good morning!!!!

22 and windy and snowing, going to 30.

Glad I cut more firewood yesterday and filled the rack on the side porch.

Been listening to the local news...Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel closed...Amtrak cancelled...icebreaker ship working to clear a path across the Chesapeake Bay to Tangier Island...big power outages...major water main break in Petersburg...I feel lucky here.

Seems we have more illness and health problems than ever here in the TBN "family"...prayers for all.

Think I'll mostly stay in today and work on a project for my wife...I pay all the bills (or have them set as auto-pay), do all the finances, and therefore know all the websites, account numbers, due dates, passwords, etc. I'm going to create a spreadsheet that has all the pertinent info. Then I'm going to create a "Favorites" file on her laptop browser with shortcuts to make it easy for her to click on them. Will try to get finished before she gets home. Then will have her go to each website to get familiar.

That’s a very good idea, nothing like losing someone and having no clue how to proceed with everyday functions.

Rip, good to hear progress, prayers for a Friday return home!

Buckeye, sorry to hear about your addition work, they giving you a price break?

Randy hope you had fun. Had dinner with a friend while in STL, lost his wife to a heart attack after 27 years together, mention this was 7th Christmas without her. I don't think he has been on a date yet.

RNG enjoyed the trip update, rubber side down

Bird prayers for the next procedure for your wife and you.

Welcome new guys and welcome back mia people.

My date was just dinner with a former neighbor who lost he husband three years ago. Just a way to avoid being alone all the time. I gave no interest in romance or any such thing right now. I just miss my baby!

-9 with a high of -4. Wind N13 gusting 18 mph.
The snow that was forecast, didn't happen. Not 1 stinken inch! Didn't matter anyway.
In temps below zero I don't bother trying to start the tractor.

So the forecast for today is 'periods of snow ending this morning [haven't seen any], with temperatures falling to -18F. Wind N 20 gusting 50 mph. Including wind chill/feels like the temp will be about 40 below.
After tonight, things are gonna warm up.

So there you have it for what it is worth. Another chilly day and night.

I gotta go out again today. I forgot to go to the liquor store and get some more sherry for toddys.

I did get one thing accomplished yesterday. Ever since the bathroom rebuild I have hated the shower head. You could pee harder than the water came out of that head. So yesterday I went to my local Home Hardware store and got a MOEN head with three settings [I put it on the massage setting]. I took a 1/4" drill and drilled out the insert in the head and that took about 1/8" off the hole in the swivel ball [I don't give a **** about most warranties]. Installed it and pressure tested. WOW! What a difference!
Total cost was $11.99 + 13% tax.

The rest of you guys that aren't used to the snow and cold, stay safe.

That’s a very good idea, nothing like losing someone and having no clue how to proceed with everyday functions.

I sat down every few months with my wife and went over our finances and where everything was kept. But then I had the finance background, not her.
She really did not enjoy the process frankly.
I was pretty organized already from a career mostly in insurance, but when I became a financial planner/family finance doctor/CFP, one of the big things was to educate folks on
good paperwork. Including one go to spot, which frankly should be a small firesafe, because everything in it will be important.
All net worths and asset lists should be updated as regularly as you can. I do mine on an old Quicken program. Copy printed out in my firesafe for my oldest brother,
my executor, and a lawyer. He for sure requires I don't leave him a giant mess. We laugh about who will go first. Sort of...

And most importantly you need to talk about things. A Honey what if conversation. It's smart to do it. You are already overwhelmed emotionally, adding extra stress
in frantic searches for keys and financial stuff is just something to be avoided if you can.
No matter how much money you have, I guarantee you that your wife will be anywhere from worried to scared to death she is going to run out of money if you die.
I heard this over and over across the kitchen table, at night, working with spouses on their finances.
Everyone worries about their kids.

If you haven't had one of those talks, including possibly some how-to's, or your paperwork isn't in shape, good time of year to get it done. Likely stuck inside anyway.
Write it down and leave instructions. Doesn't take long.
back to regular programming. hope this helped someone

you need to drive down and see that icebreaker coming up the Bay! Boy would I like to see that. I hope some helicopter or drone takes some pics.
That fishing community is iced in and there's only water access. So they've done this before, but doesn't happen very often. Bombzilla or something...

Tangier Islanders are an ancient breed, like native Outer Banksers, very few of those old sea farer genes left unmolested, but they survive.

I can’t get to my truck that I forgot to put in the garage, let alone the bay.

19° and about 1/2" of snow.

I also pay all the bills. My wife takes no interest in doing it or knowing about it. I would caution against user account names and passwords kept on a file on the computer, unless you encrypt the file.

Up until this yr, i would make and print a yrly spreadsheet showing major bill due dates, amounts, and id write in amount paid, then go back and update spreadsheet at end of yr. For loans would include start bal, end bal, int rate, originate date and amount. I did not include my utility bills, this was more for loans.
I would also list yr begin and end mileage for vehicles.

I stopped using it last yr, have less loans now.

I still like paper bills, even if i pay online. I keep bills due in a pile in the order due.

Course i track everything in quicken, and it keeps track of upcoming due bills also.

As for passwords, i keep them written in a place, where she knows where they are. I also now use lastpass for some of the online accounts, it will automatically fill in the account name and password for the sites i allow. There is just one password to remember for lastpass itself.

I use lots of spreadsheets. Keep track if all my tractor usage. I track each task i use it for, if i use bucket, forks, or backhoe and the hrs. Also fuel fills.

I dont track lawn mower usage.

Also track sons college bills, i know exactly how much is spent on books, fees, dorm, meals, tuition, etc. And i track courses taken, hrs and grades, and how many they gave left. Dont want to waste money on needless courses, as long as im paying the bills.
And track all utility payments. All electric usage since i built house 20 yrs ago, and keep and compare yrly averages and sliding 12 month averages.
When i burned oil, have amounts and cost spent.
Track my pellet usage, and yrly costs and amounts. I know how many bags are in the barn, date and number of bags i stock in house..
Also have a monitoring system on my geothermal, and it captures run times, temps in a monthly csv file that i can then analyze.

Sounds like a match made in heaven.
Wind got up late held the temps up around 10, looks like we are under a winter storm watch starting tomorrow. Currently saying 5 for us, then weekend highs of 14-16 degrees.

I feel like I知 finally getting this upper respiratory stuff, calling doc today. Don稚 feel bad but other signs are there.

The winter has been cold here in Eastern Canada. Not much snow right where I am at but we are suppose to get pounded today.

Seeing your thing on the bottom.."don't steal the government hates competition"In our area we have several people that moved from Cottage country north of Toronto because they could no longer afford to live there. Electricity and land taxes were crazy. They were simple people who lived a simple life up there for years but could not longer live there because of the taxes. No fair and in my opinion it is government theft.
