Pit Cart Project Started

No trouble with heat on the welders so far. The little bit of welding I do it gets quite a bit of air circulation all through the rear of the cart. It is all open in the back. Todays cart progress I started mounting the Komato Grill on the front frame section. I'm trimming the legs and fabricating new supports that go better with the overall smooth look of the frame. Next I will scratch build a tie rod steering axle assembly for the front. I am pleased how this is looking so far. It will be fun to use it this summer.

Front axle - I have the spindle parts cut out, drilled and welded together now. I built the front tube axle and have the first spindle assembly welded to the axle. You can see my sketch of the T-handle / steering mechanism I will start cutting out parts for tomorrow. I should get this project done by this weekend. :thumbsup:

Today I cut out, drilled and welded the parts for the steering. You can see the brackets where the T-handle will attach. Tomorrow I will fine tune the tie rod bars before I do the final welds . Still looks rough but It should work great and be plenty strong with 3/4" axles and pivot pins.

Wow. Other than the tie rod ends you built everything from scratch didn't you? Waldon, gotta ask what did you do for your lively hood in your hay day.? Impressive.

Yes, I cut most of the metal out of 5/16" plate with the plasma cutter. I was a meat cutter for 20 years but the cold meat room started effecting my fingers and other meat cutters were getting arthritis so I decided not to keep cutting meat. Then I did lawn care and snow removal and built models for 20 years. I enjoyed that but it is time to relax and enjoy life now. I still like to putter in my little workshop.
Today I cut some more plate steel and drilled it and welded it to the axle and bolted it to the main frame. Also got the T-handle made. It moves very nice. Tomorrow I will work on the rear lift axles. They are just sitting there right now and not attached. The extra axles are just for fun, I love lots of tires, ha,ha.:thumbsup:

Ha, Ha, I got too many things around here to drive now. I am almost done now with the bbq pit cart . Just going to make a overhead rack to hang a few things.

The signage is a nice touch. I'm curious if the center wheels get in the way of your feet when using that section.

Thanks, the signs did help. I wondered the same thing about the two forward rear tires. I made it so they can be removed in less than one minute just in case.
I made progress on the overhead rack today. I also made a narrow shelf on it . This will be very handy for all the grilling tools. Actually the bottom drawer won't open with the wheels in the way so that is another reason I made them quick slide off .
